Watch Finest Polo Players of India at the Finals of the HVR Baroda Polo Cup tournament, 2015

It was a great Saturday afternoon on 7th November, 2015, when the final of the HVR Baroda Cup tournament was played between teams representing Jindal Panther and Sona Polo at the Jaipur Polo Grounds in New Delhi, which was in fact the inaugural match of the fall winter polo season.

The game of polo, which is already a popular outdoor sport, and followed keenly by people from the elite society, especially the families of hierarchies, was once again highlighted. The final was hosted by Princess of the Gaekwad family, AsharajeGaekwad and Harshavardhan Reddy.

The inaugural match was an exhibition tie being played between Maharaja Fateh Singh Gaekwad sports foundation and HVR Baroda Cup teams, which was an exciting match being watched by eminent persons like JyotiradityaMadhavraoScindia, MP, Designer ReynuTaandon, Cricket commentator GautamBhimani, Rajeshwari Raj Laxmi from Jaiselmer, designer PawanSachdev, Dr. Pravej Ali Ahmed, Jewelry designer PoojaVaswani, Interior designer ParullMahajan, and other personalities. The surprise of the day was the presence of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, who was appreciated for her connection to Polo.Accompanying her on the stands was PragyashreeGaekwad.

Also seen at the event was NeelamPratap Reddy, who was wearing a Tilak. She also gave a brief speech mentioning the association with Polo by her two daughters, and also speaking humorously about the stink of horses from their dresses and shoes when coming back home from playing.

An Initiative of the hvr Baroda Polo Cup tournament was taken some years back by harshavardhan Reddy, with an aim to popularize the sport, which has been successful,going by the enthusiasm shown by all on the Jaipur Polo Grounds that day. Teams that represented Jindal Panther and Sona Polo were, Mr. SimranShergill, Mr. Miguel Saravia, Naveen Jindal, and Mr.Pratap Singh Kanota representing Jindal Panther, and Mr. SunjayKapoor, Mr. Bhawani Singh Kalvi, Mr. SalimAzmi, and Mr. AbhimanyuPathak, representing Sona Polo. The match ended with Jindal Panther winning by a margin of 8-5 goals.

Thanksgiving speeches were given by guests in honor of the Princess and harshavardhan reddy. The afternoon was a great one to be remembered, especially with persons like Sarah Ferguson, harshavardhan HVR being present on the day. Pleasantries were exchanged between the two finalists and the whole atmosphere was lit up by the grandeur of the ambience. The game of Polo was once again highlighted as the most followed outdoor sports by the royal families and persons from the elite societies.
