Emotional Intelligence is as valued as intelligence today and it might come as a surprise but it is also behind the failure of many highly qualified professionals who fail to take emotionally viable decisions. Professionals possess all the necessary skill set and tools to tackle complex situations except emotional intelligence and that dooms havoc on their decisions. It is therefore important to understand the various facets to emotional intelligence and the growing importance of emotional intelligence training. It is based on the principle that businesses flourish by a combination of business acumen and emotional stability. A lack in either department could be a deterrent to success.

It is crucial to note that human emotions trigger certain behavioural patterns that command the brain to undertake actions in complex situations. It is therefore imperative to have mastery or at least control over the free flowing and untamed emotions. Certain strategies and constructive feedback can help control these emotions in high pressure situations and this is one of the motives of emotional intelligence training. Door Training and Consultancy has listed down certain dynamics and woven them in a fabric that is representative of their comprehensive emotional intelligence training.

There are certain components that define the success of any emotional intelligence training. These include but are not limited to:

  • How much do you know yourself: Self awareness becomes crucial in identifying your mood and the effect of your behaviour on others? Your ability to present yourself in difficult situation, the ability to laugh at yourself and lighten a tense situation by a subtle sense of humour and the manner in which others think about you matter. Good emotional intelligence training like the Door Training and Consultancy model incorporates this in the trainees.
  • Self-control: It is an undervalued virtue but has the potential of doing a lot. Are you frivolous? Are you impulsive? Can you regulate your momentary desires to prevent a complexity? The factors that matter here are your conscientiousness and the ability to adapt to change. You must be able to demonstrate maturity at times when your junior is being unreasonable or even rude. Not all battles are won at the heat of the moment.
  • Self-motivation: The levels to which you are motivated and ready to take responsibility for your actions determine your emotional intelligence. What are your priorities and how important is your work and to what level you will go when needed all amount to certain importance.
  • Social Skills and empathy: Any good emotional intelligence training would drive across a sense of empathy in you because that matters in difficult situations. How well can you walk in someone else’s shoes determines your decision taking abilities and approaching things from an alternative perspective. The ability to gel well with distinct groups of people and socialize in varied circles with contrasting views and perspectives also holds importance as they reflect on the relationship management skills instrumental in the success of any business. The feeling of empathy and social skills also keep one away from office politics and unnecessary gossip. These are traits important for conflict management and resolution. It is something that the emotional intelligence training would emphasize upon and try to cultivate in professionals.

Emotional intelligence training might be a recent trend in the business sector but it is here to stay. Hence, it makes common sense to take the plunge sooner rather than later to benefit not only employees at an individual level, but the entire organization as a whole.
