Upasana Taku, the woman behind ZaakPay

Zaakpay is a company that provides payment gateway solutions for web and mobile transactions. They are currently based in New Delhi and Bangalore. With online shopping and transaction getting along Indians, online payment has been a huge issue until recently. Buying things from a technological device and letting it play around with your money has been a huge concern for Indians. Majority even today find cash on delivery more convenient even though it may mean putting in more efforts. But recently there has been increase in the use of e-wallet system in India and customers have been exploring convenient ways of shopping and Upasana Taku found the right time to start her company.

Considering all of these factors and the growth and the recent increase in trust of Indian customers in e-wallet system, Ms. Taku decided to start her own business after being a part of PayPal in San Jose as the product manager. She held an engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar in 2001 and had worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the Standford University’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

After which she came to India in 2008 and founded Zaakpay and co-founded MobiKwik with the help of Bipin Preet Singh who helped her in bringing their ideas to reality. These two emerging companies is today one among the companies that will help change the nature of e-commerce in India. She started with the aim of simplifying digital payments for new Indian websites and today Zaakpay is the only payments company in India to offer a 100% online merchant application. The mission was not launched in a day’s time, it was her passion towards technology and its branches that she established it.

When she planned of entering the market dominated by seasoned players she was not sure of the success that would follow her. But taking advantage of the sluggish technology or the high sign up amounts charged by them, she decided to give Indians a friendly payment experience with Zaakpay. With hard work of paving her own way in the market, she established an e-wallet website which is today termed as India’s most secure payment gateway. She defines her journey of building up Zaakpay as courage under fire. She studied the market well and provided the audience with the material that was lacking. She gave them a better payment experiencing simplifying the odd they faced while paying online.

Being a woman, she firmly believes that there is nothing that women cannot achieve in the male dominated society. Considering the fact that technology is generally the beat handled by men, Ms. Taku created an example for more women to join the field. Her dream being a bigger one did not stop her from taking steps to way to establish it. Being a startup in the online space and e-wallet websites being an evolving concept in the country, she believes that there are more products she needs to try her hand at for making her services more suitable. She is constantly working to take her dreams to a bigger level and is using her potential to the fullest.
