In the midst of other mobile carriers announcing the release of their flagships in 2016, Apple might be joining this bandwagon with a new, smaller iPhone model that will supposedly be released in April 2016. The rumored release date was speculated in a presentation from China Mobile the other day.

The original report regarding the new Apple flagship referred to the small device as the iPhone 7c however since Apple usually updates its flagship handsets in the fall, it is unlikely that this new rumored handset would be a 7c when an iPhone 7 has not even debuted yet. Most media outlets have referred to the rumored device as the iPhone 6c since the four inch device is expected to feature many of the same components as the iPhone 6 and 6s series.

In recent weeks, this "iPhone 6c" has been the subject of many rumors and speculations. Supposedly, it is believed that Apple is working on a new, smaller 4-inch model with an A9 processor and Apple Pay support. It is expected that this model will be a low-end model, replacing the iPhone 5s at the $450 price range. Reports suggest that it will lack the 3D touch pressure sensing input of the iPhone 6s series but will sport a metal chassis giving it a more "premium" feel than the previous iPhone 5c lineup.

Recent reports surrounding Apple claim that they are planning a March 2016 event so this April 2016 launch of the iPhone 6c model would line up. The report regarding the event claimed that Apple could debut this new four inch model as well as a second generation Apple Watch around the same time. Some believe that the handset will look largely like an iPhone 5s although it will feature 2.5D cover glass which will be slightly curved like on the iPhone 6 and 6s.

Although the consumer market has been geared towards larger smart phones, there may be some interest in this four inch model. Not a lot of information is currently known about this device and what the specifications are as majority of the reports include rumors and speculations. Hopefully, the press even in March will shed light on this new four inch model as well as Apple’s future flagship phones.
