ZTE debuts a 6-inch Axon Max smartphone – phablet with dual-SIM support

Posted: Dec 28, 2015
After making progress with the Axon Pro, ZTE finally introduced a phablet-sized variant into the market, with the debut of Axon Max. Their high-end Axon series includes popular devices such as the Axon Elite, Axon Lux, and Axon Pro, all which have a 5.5 inch display, and the Axon Mini which has a 5.2 inch display. ZTE announced a new device this week, the Axon Max, which offers a 6 inch 1920 x 1080p display. Like the other Axon phones, the Max is designed with premium materials sporting a thin, slick body measuring 160 x 80 x 7.5 mm.
The phone was first rumored in October to have the same specifications as the Axon Pro, which was not case. The Max is made from aluminum-titanium alloy metal despite its sleek Gold colored design which gives it a premium feel. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range octa-core Snapdragon 617 and is paired with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage which is expandable through a microSD slot. The phone offers dual SIM capability and also offers users a 16 megapixel rear camera equipped with phase detection autofocus and a 13 megapixel front camera. To handle its size and a busy day of usage, the Max is powered by a 4,140 mAh battery which also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 for speedy charging allowing users to charge from 0 – 60 % in about 30 minutes. Other specifications which interested consumers may enjoy include a USB type-c port, a rear mounted fingerprint reader, and a superior audio system powered by AK4961 24-bit ADC.
The device will run Android 5.1 but it will also have ZTE’s MiFavor 3.5 skin, despite frustrations users had with the 3.2 version that the Axon Elite featured so hopefully this new version will offer users with some improvements. The Axon Max is already available for pre-order in China for 2,799 Yuan which is equivalent to about $431. The phone should be on sale in China later this month however there is no word on international availability yet. The Max is designed for individuals who not only work hard but play hard too with all of their specifications.
