How to Select Materials to Put Out Fire?

At some time or the other, most of us get to face fire or help others in our life time. So, one must know about the types of fire extinguishers Fort Lauderdale and the materials used to put out fire. You must know information about the special conditions that you need to consider while buying.

Types of materials used:

Various materials are used to extinguish the fire depending on its type. So knowing about them helps you in taking a decision. They include water, Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, and metal/sand. Let us study them briefly.

Water:

This extinguisher is used to put out fire for Class A fires which include common combustibles like cloth, rubber, paper and some plastics. Class A fires include all the materials which leave ash when burnt. Water can’t be used for other types of fires.

Dry chemical:

These are very effective ones in putting out fire. A, B, C, D types of fires can be extinguished by this material. This method puts a layer of chemical dust on the material which is burning and thereby puts out fire. The fires which are due to flammable liquids like lubricating oil, diesel fuel, gasoline and many organic solvents that are found in laboratories comes under Class B type of fire.

Class C type of extinguisher is the one which is used to blow out electrical fires for energized electric motors, switches, tools, circuit panels and other electric equipment. Whereas Class D ones are used to snuff out fires from metals, and some metal alloys like sodium, titanium, and magnesium.

Carbon dioxide:

These are used only for the Class B and C extinguishers. Oxygen is removed from the vicinity of the fire by which this material works. As this type of material leaves no residue, this is the best choice for aircraft electronics, medical, computer and scientific equipment.

Metal / sand:

Metal or sand such as powdered copper metal, or sodium chloride (NaCl) is used to snuff out fire from metals and metal alloys. This material is used for class D extinguishers.

There is another class of fire extinguishers Fort Lauderdale named as K. This is mainly used for cooking fires from fat, grease and cooking oil.

Some of the fires require special extinguishers. We should also study about them so that we can take a decision effectively whenever needed. So don’t ignore this, thinking that we can know them when required.
