How to become a certified Montessori teacher

A new born child knows nothing, understands not a single sound and can obviously not speak. It is the responsibility of the parents to make their child/ wards aware about everything, make them pick up the appropriate sound and slowly and gradually teach them to speak. The entire process is very complex and complicated but all of us make it happen like the way we blink or the way we breathe, it happens naturally and effortlessly. This little journey of a child, till the time they start responding to the commands and demands of their parents, takes a lot of time. We therefore can interpret that parents make their child learn all these things. For a couple of years, through parents, a child learns to smile, respond, walk and then later speak / talk. The parents have now made their kid, school ready. In the school your little one will come across an adult whom they will eventually call "teacher". The child, in school, encounters the second significant adult in his/ her life, first of course being the parents. We all can vouch for a fact that teachers have to make a lot of effort in teaching and hence the importance given to a teacher.

Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, teacher and thinker, developed a style and philosophy for teaching and since then it is the most sought after way of teaching primary kids. Montessori teachers work on the strength of each child and hence it brings out the best in them. In order to become a Montessori teacher one needs to do a Montessori teacher training program that enables them to become a certified Montessori teacher. After the completion of college you can start your journey for realizing your dream of becoming a Montessori teacher. A word of caution for those interested in doing Montessori teaching program, it is advisable to check the accreditation of the institute you are enrolling in, to ensure that their certification is authentic.

A training center providing Montessori training program needs to have an accreditation from any of the following association or society: Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), American Montessori Society (AMS), or Montessori Association council for Teacher Education (MACTE). The duration of the course is one year, where apart from theoretical knowledge you also get a lot of practical exposure and this comes in handy when you take up a job.Prospective Montessori teachers can specialize in any one or more of the educational age groups mentioned below:Infant and toddler (birth-2 years), Early childhood (3-6 years), Elementary 1 (6-9 Years), Elementary 11 (9-12 Years), Secondary level (12-15 Years) and Montessori administration.The core principles and style of Montessori philosophy remains intact for all age groups, skills required and technique administered, for teaching, vary significantly for different groups. Once you get yourself enrolled for the training program, it is prudent that you diligently attend all your lectures, do all your written work and participate in all the practice sessions. After completion of the course you are now ready to take a plunge as a Montessori teacher in a school and start doing your dream job.

The three main guiding philosophies of a Montessori teacher are commitment to students, profession and public. Montessori teacher training make you, patient, sensitive and considerate, it also makes you a better person.
