The Benefits and Demerits of EPDM Sheeting
Posted: Jan 02, 2016
Ethylene polypropylene diene monomer rubber sheets or EPDM sheets have wide range of applications ranging from radiator hoses in the cars to washers, kitchen gaskets and insulation. This sheet is resistant to cold and heat also it performs well on any barrier from ozone to UV and also has ability to retain its color over time. This sheet has good tensile strength and elongation properties.
Other uses of EPDM sheets are they are used in seals. O-rings, garden and appliance hose, tubing, washers, belts, solar panel, heat collectors and speaker cone surrounds.
However it has certain benefits and demerits in its usage
The benefits of using EPDM sheets are showcased by its attributes:
- These sheets exhibit excellent resistance to ozone oxidation and also used in environmental protection, construction, leakage and sealing effect.
- These sheets are resistant to water both fresh and salt hence they are used as water resistant in electrical cable joints. Thus this sheet is the perfect choice for potable water applications.
- EPDM offers good resistance to compression and atmospheric degradation and thus it is used in HVAC systems and other flexible sealing applications.
- EPDM does not deteriorate
- It offers structural movement without any membrane stress while roofing
- These sheets are flexible and does not shatter in frigid temperatures
- It has good resistance to thermal shock and hail damage
- It has high durability
- It has good resistant to heat, chemicals and Ozone
Article Written under guide of Goldline Ventures :-
Goldline Ventures has been in the league for 30 years now. The company deals in supply of rubber raw material and rubber chemicals. We follow the international standards of quality and the key line of product supply we deal in includes NBR Rubber, SBR Rubber, Carbon Black, Zinc Oxide, Stearic Acid and Synthetic Rubbers, Zinc Oxide, Stearic Acid, silicone Emulsion and more rubber chemicals. Our clients rely on us for providing timed delivery of promised consignment. Cost effective solutions and excellent customer support are our prime focus as an industrial rubber material supplier.
- However it has certain drawbacks or the demerits which are as follows:
This sheet exhibits unsatisfactory compatibility with most oils, gasoline, kerosene, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents and concentrated acids. Also the chemical nature of the material is inert makes the EPDM sheet difficult in adhering.
Keeping its limited drawbacks at bay, EPDM sheet is a good all – round commercial material and is widely used as a lower cost polymer with good processing abilities.
