Typically if a customer wants to leave their phone carrier mid contract or before they have paid off their device, the mobile carrier usually charges switching costs or early termination fees. T-Mobile was the first phone carrier to offer customers coverage of their early termination fees. AT&T and Sprint soon followed suit and now, Verizon has joined with a similar deal. Verizon is offering to pay a customer’s switching costs up to $650 per line if they’re willing to ditch their old carrier and join the Verizon network.

For this promotion, it is a pretty straight forward process with limited strings attached. Once the customer agrees to leave their current carrier, they will need to port their number from their old carrier to Verizon, get a new 4G LTE smartphone, and trade in their current device which should be in working condition while committing to stay with Verizon for at least six months.

Once they’re done with the initial steps, Verizon will send them a box to send in their old smartphone. Be sure to have all the details such as the final bill with the carrier you are switching from, the order number from Verizon, and any trade-in details. Once everything is in order and has been received by Verizon, they will send a prepaid gift card in the mail which may take a few weeks to receive. The prepaid card will either be up to $650 for installment plan balance less trade-in value or up to $350 for early termination fees less trade-in value.

In addition to covering your switching fees, Verizon is also offering an extra 2GB of data provided the device that you choose is activated on the XL or XXL plan. Details for these plans are available on their website however, the best way to find out what data plan would be best for you would be to visit a Verizon retail store near you and speak to a knowledgeable sales representative. So whether you are in the middle of your contract or paying monthly payments to your carrier, Verizon has you covered, at least up to $650 per line, if you are willing to make the switch and start the New Year with a new device and new network
