Roti Bank- An Organization that Provide Food to the Needy
Posted: Jan 08, 2016
The Roti-bank is a concept that is spreading faster than fire throughout the various regions of our country. The concept is short and simple, collect waste food from various houses and parties and feed needy people with that food. The initiative was started by the group of four friends of Aurangabad who started collecting the left-over and excess food from the various parties and functions. From the food that they collected, they started feeding the poor and needy people. Within a span of just a few months, several such groups have come up and have started helping the poor and needy people. Various Roti banks in states of Maharashtra,
Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh have been set up where the food is provided to the people who don’t have money to buy it. The Roti Bank in Hazaribagh district needs a special mention as they provide the food to people under the threat of naxalites.
What makes this Roti Bank Concept so unique?
The Roti Bank concept is a unique one, on the first hand, it saves the undue wastage of food while on the other it feeds the starving people and saves many a them from death. Earlier, there was a lot of wastage of food especially in the parties and functions where they had to dump these foods, now they can ask the nearest Roti Bank to come and collect that food and save undue wastage of the food. You will also garner the good-wishes of people who will get fed by that excess or left-over food.
The other facet of the Roti-Bank that makes it that unique is the co-operation of people from different communities without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, color or the sect. They all work together, stay together and dine together in these Roti-banks.
An impending need for more and more Roti banks:
While there are several self-help groups that are currently feeding the poor and needy people, the need of more such organizations is the need of the hour. It is high-time that we shall also join this initiative and help the poor. Even if can contribute with the left-over food in our house and use it to satiate the wants of a starving person, then it is a great social deed and it provides us with invaluable blessings that can help them prosper. So, make your effort and if not start by just feeding a single beggar and you will soon find many hands joining you in the effort.
