Morning Sickness During Pregnancy

Bathroom visits are among the first symptoms of pregnancy that pregnant women face. According to estimations 99% of pregnant women feel sick or to be sick in early pregnancy months. Therefore you need not to worry about being the only one facing such tribulations during pregnancy.

Morning sickness is one of the earliest and most common signs of pregnancy. The severity of the condition defers from woman to woman and it is not certain that you will vomit. There can be some changes in your tolerance to certain smells. A large you may feel sick for 3 to 4 weeks straight. What you need to know is that the term Morning Sickness itself is misleading. Only 25% of pregnant women feel the need to vomit in morning. But the feeling of nausea can strike at any time of the day.

In some conditions morning sickness can become severe and affect your relationships with your partner, family and friends. However help is easily available with most. One severe form of morning sickness is HG or hyperemesis gravidarum. In this condition pregnant women vomit many times a day and are unable to consume anything.

Affect on baby

As long as you are able to retain the fluid quantity in your body, morning sickness will have no direct impact on your baby. Even in most severe cases any negative effect on pregnancy is unfound.

It is a good sign that you are feeling sick. It shows your hormonal cycles are working well during pregnancy and placenta is well developed. In order to maintain your health and deal with morning sickness you should:

Eat healthy and balanced diet. Avoid eating too much odd food or munching on snacks. If you are unable to eat a healthy diet due to nausea don’t worry soon you will be on track. Your baby gets the necessary nutrients from your body even when you are not eating healthy diet. However it becomes important that you start taking care of your diet from 3rd trimester.

It is also important to keep a check on water level in your body. Any of the following signs can mean you are dehydrated:

  • Urine is dark colored
  • Repeated vomiting
  • Blood vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Faintness or feeling weak

If none of the home treatments work on these conditions then it is necessary to consult your doctor.

Morning Sickness Period

Usually morning sickness remains for 9 weeks of pregnancy in the early stages. The condition starts improving at the end of first trimester; however in very few women the condition can last for 16 to 20 weeks as well.

It is necessary that you consult a doctor if you feel headache or nausea till the 12th week of pregnancy. This can be sign that you have more than just morning sickness troubles.

Support

With changing your diet, taking precautions, exercising, meditation and therapies all can help to deal with morning sickness problem.

Keep your medication on. Ask your doctor for any additional support which you may require to better deal with your health issues during pregnancy.
