The Punto hatchback was first introduced in India in 2008 by Fiat Automobiles. Although Fiat is a trusted brand name in India, it does not enjoy very high popularity here like the Maruti or Honda. High competition and low sales in the market gradually forced the company to bring a new face-lifted model in the year 2014 - the Punto Evo. What makes this Punto Evo different from the older model? Let us find out.

Exterior

The 2014 Punto Evo comes in with significant changes on the exterior as well as interior but has retained the same engine and mechanics as the earlier model. The front of the car is completely altered by a redesigned front bumper and grille with larger air dams, new set of LED headlamps and trapezoidal fog lamps. Wing mirrors with LED blinkers, chrome door handles, chrome lines on front, defroster with wiper, roof mounted spoiler and 14-spoke 16-inches alloy wheels are other notable improvements outside.Punto Evo is the second best looking car in its segment. This model is available in Glitterati Gold, Hip Hop Black, Tuscan Wine, Minimal Grey, Pearl White, Magnesio-Grey and Exotica Red colours. Also Check About Mahindra KUV100 Visit for Autoportal.com

Interior

Dual toned beige and black colours adorn the interior cabin. Leather wrapped steering wheel, gear knob, handbrake lever and piano-finish centre console are some of the striking features inside. The red outlined white seats also add a certain element of novelty to the car. The cabin is very spacious and has few storage spaces inside apart from the boot space extending to 280 litres. The car also comes with front airbags, ABS, EBD, central locking, automatic climate control, a new stereo system, 12V power socket, digital clock, programmable speed limit buzzer, real time mileage indicator, seat belt warning light etc.

Powertrain and mileage

This is one area where Fiat has not made any changes. Fiat continues to offer the Punto with same engine options - the 1.2-litre that produces 67 bhp and 96 Nm and a 1.4-litre unit that produces 89bhp of power with 115 Nm torque, alongside the 1.3-litre diesel in 2 states of tune – 75 bhp power with 197 Nm torque and the other at 90 bhp power with 209 Nm torque. All these variants have been mated to the traditional five-speed manual gearbox.

Variants and Price

Fiat offers Punto Evo in 3 trims which are Active, Dynamic and Emotion alongside a Sport variant too. The price range varies in between 4.55 lakhs to 7.2 lakhs. At this price, it competes now against the new Volkswagen Polo, Swift and the Hyundai Elite i20. The car again grabbed the headlines recently when it was brought out as a performance based hot hatchback Abarth Punto.
