Hi Guys!!, I hope you all want to be fitness freaks out there busy in making New Year resolutions...?? Or you have resolved never to make a resolution again..... Just kidding guys!! Every year on 1st of Jan, my mailbox overflows with people declaring their New Year fitness resolutions, but by the end of Feb they find it hard to keep it, and I don’t even want to mention what happens next. They make resolutions that they keep for only a few weeks or maybe even just a few days.

Why does this happen?? After all, we have the perfect intentions, the perfect timing (new year, new beginning). The problem lies in the fact that, we put too much pressure on ourselves to start something. Me personally, if I want to start something I don’t necessarily wait for New Year, my focus is on "How" rather than "when". If you really want something bad enough, you should not wait for it. Well that’s just me!!!

So if you resolve to set successful New Year resolutions, read on. I can’t promise you that I can make you keep your resolutions but if you follow these guidelines, I can promise you I can help you change your mind set for the change you wish to make!

Number one, BE REALISTIC. Whatever your goals are, whether it is to gain muscle, loose fat or learn certain languages and so on, you have to choose something that is attainable and have to take the responsibility for it, as if it is your baby. Well, in reality, resolutions are like babies: they are fun to make but hard to maintain (lol). Now back to the point, a resolution shouldn't be a fantasy, for instance if you have never lifted weights and attempting to do bench press or squat seven days per week, will only bring you disappointment. The key to sustain a resolution is patience and make small changes gradually. I personally like to give several small resolutions throughout the year, instead of aiming to add 40 kgs to my squat or dead lift; I aim to add only 6 kgs per month. Easier, right? So think about the obstacle you could face before you start.

Number two, BE INNOVATIVE. It doesn't mean you should become a rocket scientist, but it means to start thinking out of the box, finding ways to stay interested towards your set goals is a good way of doing so. Let’s say, for some people watching motivational videos or movies gets them going, reason being they like to be reminded by the third party about their goals. Involving others, who share the same goal as yours will also keep you motivated, doing things you want to do with likeminded people is always fun plus you get twice the motivation to get up and keep going. As all my things are related to fitness, a nice sportswear or clothing always work for me, the symbolic effect that was associated with the slogans and writings on the cloth has always drives me towards my fitness goals, also it might motivate the others around. I believe, when you wear gym clothing, you become more active and more likely to go to gym and work out, right?? So guys, everything works, You just got to try it out!!

Number three and by far the most important of all STAY FOCUSED. Most people could not stick to their resolutions and get demoralized year after year because of the lack of focus. To be successful at any change you really need to have zeal for it, and that urge should become your extreme desire to do so, obviously it’s not easy, but successful resolution only starts with strong and hard commitment and dedication to make a change. To achieve success you must believe that you can accomplish what you set out to achieve, and that belief is supported by discipline and efforts you put in. To stay focus, I personally visualize myself having attained my goals. How do I look? How do I feel? What people think of me? By visualizing myself into position I desire, I strengthened my belief and focus towards my goals. After all it’s all in your head, right?

So guys, I would like to close now - by saying that, no matter who you are, whatever you want to achieve, just don’t set the bar too high, your resolutions should always depends on "What you want" rather than "What other people suggest". Even if you fail, do not get disappointed, just start again, there is not a single person on earth, who hasn't stumble in their path to success. Good luck!!
