Four metro stations between Bengaluru and Mysore are soon to get a designer touch. Students from Nid (National Institute of Design) have designed logos as well as signage for these stations.

The project is a result of one of the workshops organized by NID across its three campuses – Bengaluru, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. The theme of these workshops was Design for Railways; to come up with the designs students travelled to various cities and towns and researched about the culture and history.

The logo and signage for one of the stations – Channapatna has been designed keeping in mind wooden toys for which the place is known. Another station – Ramanagaram has been linked to Sholay hills and silk. The other stations – Srirangapatna and Pandavapura have also been linked to specialty of the places.

Tipu Sultan and Ranganathaswamy Temple have been the inspiration for Srirangapatna station’s design, while designs of Pandavpura have been developed keeping in mind Pandavas, KRS Dam and Melkote Temple. V Ravishankar who has anchored the workshops for NID Bangalore campus said that he would propose the designs to Indian Railways.

NID is well-known for its creative innovations; experts and academicians feel that public sector should have tie-ups with the institute and make more use of the expertise.

The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in design across its three campuses – Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The admission to B.Design, M.Design and Diploma program is carried out on the basis of Design Aptitude Test (DAT).
