When going on an expedition on a horse, it is advisable to be fully prepared for the days ahead and not have your expedition spoilt by missing few articles or accessories. It is of utmost importance to have the complete set of riding gear and equipment to be able to enjoy the expedition. Depending upon the weather conditions, different riding wear for riders and even quilts for the horses can be purchased. Thermal quilts for winter and waterproof quilts for rainy or snowy season can be purchased for the horses whereas riders can purchase warm or insulated ridjackor vinter along with warm gloves. The following checklist should be referred to help cover everything required for a fun expedition:

  1. Horse riding pants- Breeches are pants that are designed especially for riding. They are pants that stretch and give a flexibility to the riders for bending or leaning forwards. Breeches allow for breathing space and hence are more comfortable than jeans.

  1. Shirts for horseback expeditions- Loose shirts with pockets in wide range of colours are available for riding. Lightweight shirts that are easy to wash can be carried while going on an expedition. Pullover shirts can also be considered in lightweight.

  1. Socks- Socks are an important piece of clothing while on long expeditions. They come in varying thickness and can be bought as per the weather condition. Hiking socks or woollen socks are a good choice.

  1. Inner wear for expeditions- For expeditions during autumn, woollen set of inner wear can be considered.

  1. Ridjackor- Riding jackets with or without hood are readily available in equestrian shops. They are good for chilly mornings or late evenings.

  1. Gloves- These are necessary for expeditions as they help provide a good grip over the reins and also avoid blisters and irritation of the skin while handling or manoeuvring the horse. Gloves also offer warmth and does not let the palm dry out fast. Variants such as waterproof and insulated gloves are available for rainy and winter seasons respectively.

  1. Riding boots- Riding boots with at least an inch long heel is good for expeditions so as to avoid foot sliding through the stirrup and getting caught up. Riding boots are essential to protect the ankles, toes and the shins or calf from injury. A wide variety of boots are available such as dressage boots, field boots, paddock boots and many more.

  1. A rider’s helmet- This is one of the most important item to have when on an expedition. Riding helmets prevent the brain from suffering from fatal or deadly injuries that can permanently affect the rider. Helmets absorb the shock during a fall and also reduces the impact of injury if a horse were to kick.

  1. Safety vest- This is another vital piece of garment required for safety purpose. Safety vests protect the rider’s torso or ribs, chest and heart from being injured during a fall and if kicked, crushed or trampled by the horse.

  1. Reflective wear- Reflective wear for both the rider and the horse is required because it is important to be seen at all times while riding through dark forests and woods while on an expedition. Reflective wear ensures that no vehicle or other animal clashes with the horse to cause an accident.

Hästbiten is one of ridsport butik in Sweden that appears to provide a huge collection of riding wear for a comfort and safe ride on a horse. The shop seems to have riding gear such as jodhpurs, breeches, helmets and Ridjackor. They also sell riding equipment and horse accessories.
