The Top Warning Signs to Watch for With Professional Employment Services
Posted: Apr 19, 2016
So you have been tasked with finding the best professional employment services out there. You know what it is you're looking for, you have your list of questions prepared, and you're well aware of what professional employment services offer. But here's the question, how do you know which ones to avoid? What are the warning signs to watch for that show it's not the right service for your business and your needs?
Here's a look at some of the top warning signs to watch for and be aware of as you look into professional employment services.
No Commitment on Hours
When you have an employee sitting at their desk each day, you know you are getting a set amount of hours from them each week. Well the same can be asked of professional employment services. You are perfectly within your right to ask if they are able to commit to a set amount of hours each day/week/month. If they are unable to commit, this can act as a red flag.
It's only natural you begin to question why it is they can't commit? Have they taken on too many other clients, if so how does that affect you? Or maybe they require a more flexible schedule, which may not work for you. It's important to ask why they are unable to commit, and then decide if their response is something you can come to terms with and accept.
There is No Attachment
Another issue that business owners worry about is the fact there is no attachment formed to the company by the PEO. They are an outside entity, in fact they are likely never to meet your employees in person. They don't have a vested interest in your business succeeding so you need to know that they will still form an attachment, and they will make your company's needs a priority. Being treated like a faceless number isn't very comforting for business owners.
Unfortunately with this warning sign it doesn't become apparent until at least a few months in. People always tend to put their best foot forward in the beginning.
You Aren't Given a Contact
Here's a warning sign that can be quite frustrating to deal with, and can really damper the overall effectiveness of the professional employment service. When you sign on with a PEO many companies provide you with a direct contact. This is the person you can reach whenever you have questions or problems, and you can count on them to get back to you in a speedy manner. You are usually given a few ways to reach them to ensure there is never a snag.
Now if you sign on with a company that doesn't offer a direct contact, then there is no personal touch. What should happen if you have a pressing question that needs to be answered? Do you want to sit in a line-up on hold as you wait for an operator to take your call who knows nothing about your business and your needs?
Be Informed
While there are plenty of pros when using professional employment services, there are also a number of negatives you need to be aware of. These can show up as warning signs along the way.
