Here are some common outlook issues and how these issues can be solved at first sight:
- Message that reads "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened." Cannot let the account open properly after "sign in". The user needs to sign out from the outlook service and then open Outlook.exe file from his PC's program file. The path to open outlook.exe goes like C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14. User needs to select the properties by right clicking on outlook.exe file. In the compatibility tab present in properties the "Run the program in compatibility mode" is to be disabled. Once done computer needs to be restarted and then on opening outlook service the problem no longer surfaces.
- Error message that reads "Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable." There can be different causes behind this problem:
- Lost data connection- In most of the situations faulty SMTP connection causes such problem. The "status" of SMTP connection can be tested by telnet. In case a user finds it a bit trickier, he can look for Outlook technical support.
- Locked office outlook files- Sometimes.pst and.ost files are locked knowingly or unknowingly. The permission status of these two files can be checked by navigating to C: UsersAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook and C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12 respectively. It should be made sure that both the above mentioned files are not set in "read only" mode.
- Interference from third party applications: Some programs including anti-malware software may impede running of Outlook. This problem can be fixed by opening the outlook in safe mode.
- Corrupted outlook files: This happens mostly when outlook is upgraded. The.dat files like extend.dat, frmcache.dat, views.dat and outcmd.dat are to be deleted or renamed. All these files except Outcmd.dat is re-created that saves customized toolbar settings so if it is removed these settings will have to be re-applied.
- Problems in opening personal folders: Personal folders sometimes become the main hazard related to outlook. Microsoft has already published "Inbox repair tool", and scanpst.exe that can be used to scan.ost and.pst files which automatically fix many errors in file structures. This special tools work on the files that are preserved in the PC's hard drive.
- Cannot expand outlook folders: This problem normally surfaces when personal folders exceed 1000 in outlook. There are two way solution against this problem:
- Disabling the download public folder favorite option: This can be done by disabling "Download Public folder favorites" option as present under the "More Settings" option which is again present under "Account Settings" option.
- Keeping the number of folder option below 1000
