Anytime we think about summers we almost always have a picture of easy living; one part of the easy living for some people might be considering adding a sunroom that they have always dreamed about. Sunrooms are a sure delight whenever they are added to any existing home. This enables you to bring in some delicious feeling of the outdoors but without a few unwelcome guests who live to interfere with your enjoyment of nature such as rain and mosquitoes. You can speak to a qualified contractor to advise you on adding a sunroom to your home but before then, you must ask yourself a few questions so you can make an informed decision.

Do you really need one? Building sunrooms is considered an important investment that has a slightly low return on investment. Most people who sell their houses after adding a sunroom almost always recoup only about 50% of what they spent in building it. Sunrooms become a worthwhile project if you are planning to stay in your current home for many years so you and your family can enjoy he sun regularly.

How big will your sunroom be? Most people will think that the sunroom should be as big as possible; you must consider how much of the available outdoor space you are willing to sacrifice for you to add a sunroom. You need to consult your local government to find out if there are zoning regulations that dictate the size of your house and how close you are allowed to build next to the perimeter fence. You must also realize that your property tax is likely to improve in relation to the square footage of the sunroom that you build even though the charges may be slightly lower.

What will you use the sunrooms for? This could sound like a misplaced question because most people believe that the sole purpose is getting a place where you can soak in the sunshine. However, it is important to think about what else you may want to use the sunroom for; you may want to use for relaxing, taking a leisurely breakfast over the weekend or keeping your houseplants in winter. Your answer to this question will determine the location of the sunroom and whether you may need to install an HVCA unit.

How will you control temperature? On a typical summer day, you could do with well-chosen blinds to block away the sun’s strong rays. The positioning of the windows should be such that they will allow a cool breeze and they can also reflect and they should also have a low UV-value glass. If the sunroom will be used during winter, you may want to create space for a heater or an electric fireplace.
