Unique Nature Of Gold Nanowires As Found By The Researchers

Gold based nanowires are being commonly studied in fields like biochemistry and chemistry fields, this is due to features like mechanical, electrical and optical properties. The recent developments in these fields have been successful due to the main use of gold based wires, which are doing marvels in such fields.

Chirality is such a feature in molecules, in which similar atoms are present which look like mirror images to one another. These feature bound nano wires are made of gold atoms packed closely, and they form an example of BCB helix, which is tetrahelix.

The nanowires of gold are made of atomic packages, which is different from that of other compounds. The packing of all the bulk crystals produces chiral structures which is a new field now. The formation of the chiral crystals is from symmetric atoms. These are used in various purposes such as catalysis, chemical separation and sensing.

The researchers are still experimenting and coming out with as thin gold nanowires which can be produced through a method known as seed mediated substrate process. Previously, the Au nanowires were developed using a liquid interface which has be designed specially.

Using this process, the nanowires of gold of 3 nm diameter can be produced. When grown at low limit, the nanowires will turn chiral having a BCB structure. As per a professor, these BCB structures will have ultra thin nanowires made of gold. And when they grow to be thick, then the helices will reduce down.

New applications of gold nanowires

The nanowires based on gold have become an important subject in the nanotechnology. Various researches and uses of gold nanowires are being found in the present decades. Although these are old elements which were found in 4th and 5th BC by Egyptians and Chinese, their right benefits are being known now.

One can even come across proofs which show that Romans used to collect the gold wires and stain glasses and mauve. However, the potential features of gold particles such as large volume to surface ratio, electronic features, optical properties, and many more make it usable in industries and researches. The technology is advancing and so is the path of nano wires.

A lot of studies are being made to customize the gold nano size wires to be used in special purposes, such as sensor development. The solubility, morphology, stability and surface functions of gold wires also make them controllable through some paths like Perrault method, Brust method and Turkevich method.

Some features of these gold wires make it usable in biochemistry, sensing and chemistry fields. Still many studies are being performed by the researchers and more prospective uses are being found out in various industries and factories as well.
