Alpaca has been popular in Peru for over decades and now this is spreading into the western world as a new fashion statement. The names in the luxury winter wear fabrics have been Merino, Cashmere, Mohair and Angora. But now with the Peruvian initiative known as The Alpaca Project, the name of this precious secret is making its way into the fashion industry. The hype has rocketed with the alpaca clothing promo on New York Fashion Week with everything from mittens to Alpaca ruanas/alpaca wrap.

Alpacas have made its way into the market at the right time as the cashmere which was once considered luxury is now being produced at lower quality and sold at cheaper prices.

Another trend advantage of the luxurious alpaca clothing is that the fiber comes naturally in5220 different shades ranging from snow white to chestnut. So, natural dye-free alpaca in its pure form itself can be used with very less processing. They do not produce lanolin which is a common add-on from most wool fibers and intense processing is required to remove this. Being free from lanolin and other chemical processing agents, alpaca fiber is highly preferred for allergic customers.

Alpaca shearing process is completely indigenous and there is human involvement in every step. The shearers of Peru treat these animals with intense care making sure that the animals are not hurt in any way during the cut down process. The alpaca produce a thick fur coat during the low temperature times. This is sheared soon before the hot summers and this annual cut down is a soothing procedure for the animal. The fiber is sorted according to the part of the animal from where it was shorn and the price and quality varies accordingly.

A 100% Alpaca sweater would cost around 200 USD. And people have been seeing this as a long term investment as they have a longer lifespan when compared to the short length cashmere fiber which has a higher tendency to pill.

Our brand Cadalina Collection has one of the purest Alpaca items on the market. Meanwhile you can find different kind of mix, we have 93%, 97% and 100% content on our products.
