Shopping for your bathroom vanity cabinets is similar to shopping for kitchen cabinets, the only difference being the material. Bathroom cabinets are far more exposed to moisture than the kitchen cabinets are. Thus, choosing a material that can withstand humidity should be of one of the prime concerns while selecting one.

Apart from the material there are some other obvious factors that matter, while selecting bathroom vanity cabinets. Initially you need to have a proper plan in hand, that will help you to have a proper vision of how your bathroom will look like. It must take into account the floor space and accommodate all the necessities accordingly, so that, you neither stumble into them nor waste time walking all around the space. Finally, there is your budget that needs to be considered.

Once these two major factors are settled you need to think about some more features while deciding what is right for you. They are:

  • The Cabinet Quality

There are several options of modern bathroom vanities on the market. You can get them custom made, or semi custom made or you can also choose from the RTA cabinets easily available. It all depends upon your budget. Having the vanities, custom made, enables you to design it in your preference, but the manufacturing and installing costs are high. They are also time consuming. On the other hand, you can get RTA cabinets, in a variety of color, design, and material, but have to sacrifice on the quality. This RTA cabinet available in stock and semi custom variety is readily available and does not involve much hassle to install one.

  • Cabinet Drawers

The bathroom vanity cabinets are needed to store essentials. So no matter what the quality of the cabinets you choose, make sure to get a well-constructed, sturdy drawer, especially the bottom one. The ideal size of the drawers of modern bathroom vanities should be 3/8 to ½ inch in thickness. Even if you are buying RTA cabinets, ensure the drawers open and close smoothly and are made to fit snugly in the frame. Make sure the material does not sag when extended out to the extreme.

  • The Material and Finish

Bathroom vanities, as I mentioned earlier, are susceptible to extreme wear and tear. So choosing a material that can withstand moisture and heat is essential. The most common materials used for RTA cabinets for bathrooms are: plywood, particleboard and MDF, with solid wood doors and drawer surfaces. The quality of the material obviously enhances with the amount you are willing to pay for it. Invest in high quality material if you intend to use the house and the bathroom for years to come. Most RTA cabinet manufacturers tend to avoid veneers for modern bathroom vanities as they peel off after use.

  • The Doors and Hardware

Modern bathroom vanities are manufactured in latest designs to keep up with the trend of custom made ones. However, they face limitations due to the pricing factor. Ensure you are getting good quality hardware, such as hinges and pulls for easy use of the furniture. You can accessorize the cabinets as per your budget. Modern cabinets come with facilities like, hair-dryer drawers and clothing hamper drawers etc.

As for the cabinet doors, most RTA cabinets some with flush doors. You can also get the option of elevated or inset central paneled one. Customizing one according to the rest of the bathroom décor is however expensive.

  • Styles

Consider your requirement before deciding on the style of your bathroom vanity cabinet. You get a wide range to choose from like, wall mounted one, floating vanities, double sink vanity and single sink ones. Each has their own pros and cons. Judge and balance according to the size of your bathroom and your storage needs before settling for one. There are of course certain limitations in style in RTA cabinets; if you want a vanity coordinated perfectly with the décor of your bathroom, having it custom made would be a better option.

Retailers and wholesalers have online catalogues for you to choose from while purchasing RTA cabinets. Consider the above mentioned points while selecting your preferred cabinet.
