Laverne Cox: 'My style has evolved enormously'
Posted: Feb 13, 2016
Bryce Dallas Howard is stunned by how expensive red carpet dresses are.
The Jurassic World actress dressed herself at the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics' Choice Awards earlier this month (Jan16), and is likely to also have purchased her own ensemble to wear for the upcoming Oscars in February (16).
The 34-year-old's decision to hit the shops and spend her own money on a gown is virtually unheard of, given the relationships between actresses and designers these days. But Bryce was forced to look for an outfit herself because there aren't too many options in her size.

"I've alluded to this a little bit before, but when you're not a sample size or if you don't have a direct relationship with a designer or if you don't have a lot of notice - those size 6 dresses aren't available," Bryce told Glamour.com. "I like having lots of options for a size 6 as, opposed to maybe one option."
After a lot of searching, Bryce opted for a Balmain dress that she bought online for $1,300 for the Critics' Choice Awards - a flowing jersey gown that clung to her figure in all the right places.
She knows that the topic of dressing herself for the awards season is a hot one, but she's hopeful the focus will remain on the quality of the films being recognised at the events.
"I'm slightly embarrassed to talk about it because I just want to survive those things and it's a the celebration of people's work and all of that... But at a certain point, maybe it becomes more about the dress," she said.
Despite her successful acting career, Bryce is still wary of spending too much money. The red carpet gowns she had to choose from certainly didn't come cheap, and the redheaded beauty was stunned by the prices.
"I get a little embarrassed to talk about about it because these are really really expensive outfits," she admitted. "It's not like I went and got some vintage, that I rummaged around in bin and turned it into a red carpet gown! I was a little like, oh my gosh, these are so expensive. I threw a lot of savings around that (and then as I was shopping) I got to thinking maybe 'I can consign this or auction it, because it's not something that I would normally (buy).'"
