As the Fourth generation Subaru Impreza hatchback approaches its fourth birthday, you may wonder what the 2016 new Subaru Impreza has to offer. Subaru has energised the MY16 Impreza, with an equipment boost throughout the range. Here’s a brief guide to the top of the line 2.0i-S.

Pricing:

Likely as a response to the drop in sales last year, the New Subaru Impreza 2016 range is now priced even more keenly. The base model 2.0i manual is available from $22,990 as a driveaway special and is equipped with climate control, 6.2 inch colour touchscreen and alloy wheels. The mid range 2.0i Premium is available for $25,179 for the manual and $27,239 for the automatic driveaway. This option adds leather trim, reverse camera and leather trim to the base, standard spec. The top of the range 2.0i-S is only available with an automatic transmission and is priced $27,300 plus on the road costs, taking the driveaway price to just over $31k. This variant upgrades the touchscreen to a seven inch and includes app and nav connectivity.

Inside the Cabin:

The interior of the Impreza has been carefully considered to offer a great driver experience. Standard equipment includes keyless entry, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, multi-function trip computer, dual zone climate control, cruise control, power mirrors and windows and sunroof. At the heart of the cabin is the touchscreen infotainment system. This system includes Bluetooth streaming, USB and AUX inputs, satellite navigation and Pandora internet app connectivity. The quality of the interior is more than competitive, considering the price tag. As a luxury grade, it is more than adequate competition for the likes of the Mazda3 2.0 litre Touring model. In fact, it actually has more features and larger alloy wheels. While this style of cabin may feel a little lacking in the WRX, considering that the Impreza is almost $12,000 less, it is more than sufficient. For what is classified as a small hatch, the Impreza is actually quite roomy. The 340 litres of boot space is bigger than many counterparts including the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla. You can also fold the backseats flat to increase the cargo space to an impressive 771 litres.

Performance:

As you would expect from Subaru, the four cylinder 2.0 litre petrol engine delivers plenty of power. In combination with all wheel drive and a CVT automatic transmission, the 110 kW of power is put to good use. The CVT offers quick responses especially when you are changing lanes or merging into traffic. The ride quality feels absorbent and well controlled regardless of whether you are on urban roadways of bumpy back roads. Since all of this performance power has not compromised safety, you can have total confidence. The Impreza received a score of 35.33 out of 37 on the ANCAP testing, bagging a maximum 5 star rating.
