The Use of Portable X-Rays in Dental Offices
Posted: Feb 16, 2016
The use of portable x-rays is in vogue in many modern dental clinics. These are opposed to the units that are usually fixed to a wall and require the patient to come in for an examination. The portable x-ray devices on the other hand, are usually hand held devices. There are two types of portable devices which come with carrying cases. These are easily transported and used to examine patients who are unable to visit the dentist’s office.
Patients who need off-site examination
There can be different kinds of patients who need dental examination done, but are unable to get over to the dentist’s office. These include trauma patients who are hospitalized and are undergoing different kinds of treatment. When a person has received a blow or injury to the face or the jaw line, it usually impacts the teeth settings as well. For that reason the dentist needs to visit these patients, examine them and come up with solutions to solve their problem. The same cases occur for military personnel as well. In injury and trauma cases the military camps need to be visited by dentists and they need a hand held examination devices like a portable x-ray.
Hand held and cordless machines
Among the different types of x-ray machines available, the portable x-ray machines come of the handheld and cordless kind as well. These devices are light, small and cordless. These are hand held and can be carried anywhere. The compact size of these dental products is their main advantage. The machines are good for quick examinations, especially in case of young children who can’t be made to sit still for long. These devices are usually battery operated and have low power.
Corded units
Among the portable dental products like x-rays which are used for examination, there are corded products as well. These are more powerful devices and can be used for intricate and comprehensive viewing. On the other hand, these are heavier devices and are usually supplied with a stand. They need to be plugged into a power source at the time of usage. There are more features offered in this type of device than the cordless units.
