Instagram Steals the Advertising Spotlight With 200k Advertisers
Posted: Feb 25, 2016
India is on the cusp of officially becoming the country with the world's second largest Internet user base, and that's great news for Mark Zuckerberg. Instagram, a mega popular photo-sharing platform that in 2012 was bought by Facebook for around $1 billion, doubled its base of monthly active users in India during the period between this and last September, reported the Economic Times.
Instagram has more than 400M active users,75 percent of which are outside the United States,.and the average millennial user comes back seven times per day. Facebook India's managing director Kirthiga Reddy told reporters in the country, according to the publication that among the last 100 million who joined Instagram, more than half live in Asia and Europe, also said that "Our monthly actives in India have more than doubled and the momentum continues to build."
Now on Instagram, Advertisers have the opportunity to launch campaigns that achieve performance advertising objectives, like website clicks and mobile app installs, but also allow a brand to show off its creative side. Businesses can share their stories with a highly engaged audience in a creative, high-quality environment and drive action with their ads.
As per the latest news on 2016 February 24th, Instagram announced that it has 200,000 monthly active advertisers. To compare, Facebook said a year go that it had more than 2 million active advertisers, while Twitter says it has 130,000. Probably the most impressive thing about the Instagram number is the fact that the Facebook-owned photo-sharing service only had a few hundred advertisers back in June.Much of that growth has been international - Instagram's ad program expanded globally.
James Quarles, Instagram's head of business and brand development suggested that Instagram is a great place for advertisers to reach consumers and influence their behavior. In a recent user survey, 60 percent of respondents said they learn about products and services on Instagram, and 75 percent said they take action after seeing by an Instagram post.
That sounds good for advertisers, but what does this ad growth if you're a regular Instagram user? Are going to see more ads?
Quarles said that's not necessarily the case - more advertisers doesn't have to mean more ads. In fact, he said a bigger, more diverse group of advertisers can improve the user experience, since you're more likely to see ads that are relevant to your interests. He also noted that the number of ads you see is "commensurate with amount of time spent on Instagram," and that Instagram has been working with businesses to help them "find their visual voice," so that the ads are high quality and effective.
