There is no practical dearth of adrenalin junkies in the world. A few decades back, adventure lovers and sports maniacs came up with the ultimate form of racing called motocross. Also, their cravings were satiated by the manufacturers and bike builders who introduced dirt bikes to them. The sport is an ultimate dream of many individuals across all age groups and genders. It is now catching up fast in India too.

Motorcycles come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are often customised for the owner’s preferences and cultural associations. Essentially there are six ways of categorising motorcycles: cruises, sport, touring, standard, dual-purpose, and dirt bike. Among the popular categories, the sales of dirt bike in India have seen quite a substantial rise.

Moreover, dirt bikes are essentially designed for off-roading purposes. Motocross is a form of racing competition that is generally associated with such bikes. It is a major kicker in many regions with a massive fan following.

There are stadiums built across the globe for the purpose of competition. They are known as supercross and arenacrosses. Furthermore, there are also dedicated schools and training facilities that help individuals master the skills of freestyle motocrossing. A lot of motocross tracks have come up in the recent past in various parts of India. This has also given rise to many companies and brands selling Dirt Bike in India.

The following is a list of sports that are associated with motocross:

  • Freestyle:

It was essentially derived out of supercross. Instead of racing, the sport focuses on performances through acrobatic stunts. The competitors are judged by style, difficulty of the trick, utilization of the course, frequency, and the reaction of the audience.

  • SuperMoto:

Racing is the essential purpose of this sport. The race tracks comprise of flat dirt, dirt obstacles, paved roads, and ramps. Each component such as the tyres is specially designed with added groves for the enhanced grip.

  • ATV/Quad Motocross:

The late 1980’s saw the development of racing clubs that had enduro and quad cross section for racing. There are many championships associated with this form.

  • Supercross:

It is a form of sport which involves cycle racing. It is almost at all times held in baseball or football stadiums. The tracks are shorter than the regular form of mortorcross with much sharper turns. It is conducted in the winter and spring seasons.

  • SideJeeps

Otherwise known as Sidecar racing and sidecar cross is a sport that is almost exclusively European. The motocross sidecars are custom built in accordance with the ordinary motocross-cycle with flat platforms. Moreover, it is driven on cross tracks and the driver balances it by using the self as a counterweight.

  • Pit Bikes and mini motocross

The bikes used in this format are much smaller in size. Usually, all pit bikes are custom made or, at least, have certain modifications made to them.

There are many sporting agencies across the globe that has been commissioned to monitor and develop the sport. It has been gaining considerable popularity in major developing countries.

Moreover, many manufacturers have also started sprouting newer models resulting in a considerable reduction in prices. For instance, dirt bike price in India have gone down and hence its popularity has increased.
