We know you hate cleaning your screen doors. But if the wife is often reminding you how much she hates the cobwebs, dust and bugs congregating in the screen doors, then you don’t really have much a choice, do you? If this is the case, don’t despair. Here is a guide on how to clean a French door screen door as quickly but as efficiently as possible. This should take no more than 2 minutes (maybe longer if you have a huge door!)

To start off, you’ll need a screwdriver, steel brush, broom and lubricant. You’ll probably spend twenty bucks to buy these things if you don’t have them already.

Step 1: Remove your French door screens. You’ll see a cartridge within the screen door and this thing has two wheels. The cartridge is held in place by 2 screws and if you unloosen them, it can be adjusted down or up. It also allows the door to be disengaged from the track where it moves.

Step 2: Lubricate and clean the screen door. You’ll see 4 little wheels on your screen door. Two of them are on the top while the other two are at the bottom. You have to clean and lube the wheels so they will work properly. Use the wire brush and add a lubricant. Once that is done, let’s proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Get rid of debris from your retractable sliding door screens. Use the same wire brush to get rid of dirt, insects and debris from your sliding door. A wire brush is great for the job because it can cut right through the track too. Then sweep any loose dirt using a broom.

Step 4: Put back the sliding door screen. First, you’ll need to insert the sliding door screen onto the top track and make sure that the 2 wheels rest on the metal tab. Then push it so that the bottom wheels rest on the bottom track. Place it securely on the track and tighten the screws.

Don’t forget to test the sliding door screen so that you’ll know it runs smoothly. If it doesn’t then that means you need to check whether the screws and wheels are set correctly.

If you want your sliding screen doors to continue in good condition for many years, you need to clean and maintain it properly. It’s also important to buy your screen doors from a reputable manufacturer or supplier so you’re assured of the quality of its materials and durability. They may cost more than ordinary sliding door screens but they will last for a long time.
