Constructing bridges is always a difficult task. This is because bridges are usually large in size. They need to be extremely strong and stable because the lives of people using the bridge are at risk. The slip form technique helps to achieve these goals while constructing a bridge.

Construction of bridge has evolved greatly. Today’s bridges are larger and longer. They serve the purpose of providing a way to cross. Additionally today, bridges also serve to enhance the beauty of a city. They are constructed to display the ability and creativity of the architects. Initially used to cross water bodies, bridges are now used to manage traffic flow or to provide a way for pedestrians.

Bridges require different construction method than normal buildings. They also have different types like concrete bridge, metal bridge, etc. Concrete bridge construction is commonly used for over bridges and also for bridges in water. Slip forming helps to build a strong and stable bridge.

Concrete bridges are made up of supporting pillars and horizontal superstructure. The pillars are built at the ends of the bridge or at certain distance as per requirement. These pillars provide support to the horizontal structure. Therefore, these pillars need to be strong and flawless. Slip forming technique is very helpful for concrete bridge construction. This technique involves a metal formwork that moves upwards as the construction progresses. Concrete is poured continuously in this formwork. The structure thus formed is even, smooth and without any joints. This offers the strength that a pillar needs. Since the formwork moves, there is no need to assemble it again and again. This gives speed to the construction.

Similar to the pillars, slip form can be used to build the horizontal structure too. Segments of it can be built by slip forming. It is again advantageous because it gives stability and quick construction. These segments are then lifted and placed during bridge launching.

Constructing a bridge is a process that requires accuracy. Any error can cause massive damage to life and property. Therefore, it should be done by professionals. There are companies that offer slip forming. One can compare and choose a company that has experience of such constructions. Some companies offer slip forming and heavy lifting. Such companies are preferable because one can get construction and bridge launching done under one roof.
