Pipe Fittings can be defined as fastening gear used in plumbing systems for connecting two or more tubing sections. They are designed in different shapes and sizes so as to regulate and withstand the flow or pressure of fluids and even gases in certain cases. Thus, there is a huge assortment of fittings available for fastening pipes and tubing sections. However, for successful plumbing or piping, using the right Pipe Fittings is highly crucial. Some of the commonly used types of Pipe Fittings include joints, elbows, tee and cross fittings. These fittings have different functions and advantages. Keep on reading to know more.

Types Of Pipe Fittings:

  • Elbow Fittings: – These types are used to change the direction of water flow by either 45° or 90°. There can be either socketed, butt welded or threaded elbow joints. Pipe Elbows are specifically used in kitchen sinks to regulate the speed of water that enters a sewer system.
  • Tee Joints: – These fittings are used either to join or divide the water flow. In Pipe Tees, the inlet and outlet sizes are of the same size usually.
  • Cross Joints: – These types of fittings are commonly used in sprinkler systems. They have both three inlet valves and one outlet valve or vice versa.
  • Caps And Plugs: – They are used to close the ends of a pipe. Typically, the caps are threaded and fit over the ends of the pipe, whereas the plugs fit into the ends of the pipe.

Typical Functions Of Tube Fittings:

Pipe or Tube Fittings are used in a number of piping and plumbing applications. They can be used:

  • For connecting tubes to one another.
  • For connecting the tubes to plumbing machinery.
  • For altering the course of the flow of liquid.
  • For closing or terminating a tube or piping section.

Advantages Of Pipe Fittings:

Below-mentioned are some of the common advantages of the fittings:

  • They can be easily applied on pipes, etc. and thus provide quick fastening solutions.
  • They offer streamlined flow of liquids, gases, etc.
  • With better bending qualities, they can be used in close quarters with ease.
