Is Medium a Content Marketing Paradise?
Posted: Mar 18, 2016
If you are a start-up or small business without a big social following and struggling to get traction from social media, what can you do to get some traffic boost and recognition?
Let’s say you have good online content but do not know how to market it; the traditional content promotion has not yielded great results. You have to find social media and content marketing platforms that do not care about your following or name tag.
Does this sound too good to be true? Fear, not StumbleUpon and Medium are just those platforms. They are not the mainstream social media or content marketing platforms. They have less competition and fewer user numbers compared to the big boys Facebook and Twitter but they can crash your website overnight; the potential is there, you just have to know how to harness it.
Bear in mind both Medium and StumbleUpon are free to use. They have a built-in audience that you can tap into for traffic and marketing. Medium is a content platform where people come to create and read content. The content does not have to be unique; you could simply import a blog post from your blog and publish it in Medium. It is also easy to create content within Medium.
To get the best out of Medium, though, it will be a good idea to find a publication. A publication in Medium is simply a collection of content on a specific theme or topic like ‘business’. Anyone can post in a publication given your content fits the theme and is of use to the publications followers. Other tips for getting the best out of Medium include long form content with visuals.
There is too much noise in the traditional content channels and hence, it is a good idea to master your craft and build your following in places like Medium. Once you have established yourself, you can always branch out to the mainstream channels. Medium, like most content marketing platforms, can drive huge traffic and it should be one of your many promotion channels.
