The Indo-Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched the Etios Cross in the year 2014. It was its very first cross-over, which lies between a SUV and a hatchback. The Etios Cross looks quite sporty and is clearly positioned towards the younger generation of today.

Exterior

Etios Cross is built on the same platform used for the Etios Liva. The main difference is that the crossover has slightly bigger dimensions than the hatchback. Cross is 3895 mm long, 1735 mm wide and 1555 mm tall. The wheelbase remains the same as the hatchback at 2460 mm and so does the turning radius at 4.8 metres. Other notable features outside are the bold front grille with silver grille guard and fog lamps, tough front and rear bumpers, distinctive side cladding with silver skid plate, sturdy roof rails, diamond cut ten spoke alloy wheels, ORVMs with turn indicators and a rear roof spoiler. Interior

Etios Cross has ample space for 5 people and the manually height adjustable seats are quite comfortable to sit on. The cabin comes in a piano black colour scheme with a glossy black and silver finish. The crossover also gets leather wrapped and multifunction steering, good quality upholstery, knobs, door handles and other plastics. There are clever storage spaces throughout the cabin like cup holders, bottle holders, door and seat pockets and a glove box unit in addition to the boot space of 251 litres.

Equipment and Accessories

The crossover gets all bells and whistles like an air-conditioner unit, 2 Din music system, accessory power outlets, an advanced instrument panel, power windows and steering and many more. A strong collision absorbing body, ABS, dual airbags, central locking, keyless entry, immobilizer, seat belt and door ajar warning, child safety locks, fog lights and rear defogger are the standard safety features offered.

Mechanics

The Etios Cross is available with three engine options – a 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 79 bhp and 89 bhp of power respectively and a 1.4-litre diesel unit giving out 67 bhp of power. Both petrol and diesel engine are mated to a 5-speed gear box with manual transmission and dual clutch type. The car delivers a mileage of around 16-17kmpl for the petrol engines and 23.59 for the diesel engine.

A beefed-up Liva

Toyota has launched the Etios Cross in four variants priced in a higher price range of Rs 6.23-7.72 lakhs. Overall it is a good car to buy, but is it really worth the extra price? Many say that the Etios Cross is not a new car, but just a beefed up Liva with same mechanics. Yes, both are same cars- just that one can get a better look and feel in the Cross.
