We see rapid change in the earth’s environmental conditions. Climate is perhaps the most obvious that few can deny. The winters are getting shorter & summers are enduring for a longer period. The melting of the glaciers, the changing tides, frequent storms and diminishing ozone layer are all factors that are causing concern. We need to change our actions and alter our habits. Use less and waste less. And consume more wisely. Everyone consumes products. The shift towards low impact products is a vital shift if we’re going to do our part to prevent the destruction of our planet. Using products that are made from natural, renewable resources and that can break down, or biodegrade are essential for our future.

As the climate of the earth's temperature is rising and the environmental conditions of the planet are eroding, the demand and need for these types of green products is growing drastically. An increasing array of products According to studies, approximately 85% of the population is interested in and eager to purchase these earth-friendly products.

There are three key categories that are seeing a shift towards greener products perhaps ahead of other categories for now.

  1. Green Cleaning Products: There are a multitude of products that everyone can enjoy. They are both effective cleaning agents and do not have an adverse affect on the environment or your family’s health and well-being. The primary benefit of these items is that, for the most part, they do not contain hazardous or poisonous ingredients that are harmful to us. Safe, green cleaning products do not pose a health risk to humans or to animals or other organisms. The safe ingredients in these green cleaning products can be introduced into our waste water systems without risk.
  2. Green Home Décor Products: Everybody simply loves to adorn houses. The wide variety of environmentally friendly items can be found in the market today that could make your home attractive & interesting. Many of the most widely used products are furnishings products, linens, pillows, mattresses, candles, and so on. These new greener products are of no risk to your health and free from toxic materials.
  3. Green Shopping Bags: We are drowning in plastic and plastic waste. Plastic bags and plastic packaging are the primary culprits. As an alternative, we are experiencing a positive shift to earth friendly green grocery bags that are toxins free and biodegrade naturally.
  4. Green Household Products: The house wares industry is characterized by an abundance of plastic, coated rubber, Teflon, and metal that use petroleum-based ingredients that cannot easily be disposed of. There is an emergence of green household products and green housewares products that are made from renewable materials such as bamboo and other natural materials. These products can be made with lower energy requirements, without petroleum-based ingredients and when disposed of, do not harm our water resources or add to our landfills. Products that biodegrade safely and cleanly are the future. Products that do not require an excess of packaging will be the future trend. Products that are designed with the planet in mind.

Conclusion

Our planet will benefit from the emerging green products trend. Designers today have an important task in designing products that function well, add aesthetic value to consumers, and not only don’t harm the earth, but in some way can actually benefit the environment. That’s a tall task that we can reach for before it is too late.
