What’s the difference between “good” and “bad” toothpaste? It’s often chemistry.
Posted: Mar 21, 2016
Ever had the experience where your normal toothpaste suddenly seems a bit strange or weird? Tastes wrong? Your mouth doesn’t quite feel clean? Maybe your gums feel a bit irritated or there are sore areas around your mouth?
The most likely reason for these situations is a combination of chemistry and organic processes in the mouth. Many toothpastes contain chemicals which under normal circumstances would be ignored, but which can be irritants in other cases.
For example – If your mouth is currently more acidic, using toothpastes with hydrogen peroxide or other quite strong chemicals can aggravate the acidity. If you have a minor mouth infection, these chemicals can also interact with the bacteria causing the infection, creating a sort of chemical cocktail which can taste terrible.
By definition, a good toothpaste makes your mouth feel clean, tastes good, and does not cause complications. A bad toothpaste is pretty much the exact opposite – It somehow makes things worse, and does so regularly.
The bottom line here is that the hygiene conditions in your mouth do naturally change frequently. The problem is that some chemicals in mainstream toothpastes can create problems or make them worse. You don’t actually have to be allergic to a particular chemical to find it unpleasant or irritating. When that chemical is in your mouth, however, it can become a very annoying, and sometimes significant, health issue.
One of the more recent approaches to creating a better toothpaste has been to simply discard all the usual components of commercial toothpastes and replace them with all-natural ingredients. One of the best natural toothpaste brands is made by Estrella Dental Care. This is a true chemical-free toothpaste, made with many familiar herbs and flavors and better still, it tastes excellent. If you’re tired of that same old taste, it’s a great option.
This type of toothpaste can be used as a replacement or an alternative to your regular toothpaste. It’s definitely one of the good guys in the Toothpaste Wars.
