IntroductionMolecular Sieve is a very popular form of desiccant used widely to remove water humidity molecules of substances. This is done so that moisture does not affect goods and products, which are mostly packed to be transported for long distances. The thing is defined by tiny pores that are all about the same size. It's available in many forms- beaded, granular and powdered. In this article, we will take a closer look at the powdered form of Molecular Sieve.

Properties of Molecular Sieve Powder

In its powdered form, has many unique properties. It is mainly available in dehydrated synthetic powder/foam. At present, Molecular Sieve 3A and 4A are manufactured in powder form. Generally the size of 2-10 and a bulk density of 0.38 to 0.48 g/ml. These physical properties make the powdered form ideal for many industries like petrochemical product separation, absorbing humidity among others. The main constituents of Molecular Sieve Powder are Aluminium Oxide and Sodium Silicate, which are combined in such a manner as to allow moisture/impurities to enter according to their respective sizes and polarity. As a result, small-size molecules are allowed to pass through while the larger ones (usually impurities) are left behind.

Different Uses: After getting to know the properties of it in its powdered form, let us understand its uses as well. The main applications are explained as follows:

Desiccant: The first and foremost application is as a desiccant. It is used to adsorb extra moisture during the insulating process of glass rubber spacer. The desiccant property also finds use in the manufacture of polymer desiccant materials. There are various desiccants available in the market, but all desiccants are served in different industries and their applications are also differ from other desiccants.

Storage safety: Another important use of it is offering storage protection to 1K-Polyurethane and metallic pigments.

Used as an Additive: Use as an additive for fire retardants and is also heavily employed in the cosmetics industry.

Other Uses: In addition to the above-mentioned uses, Molecular Sieve Powder is also used in polysulfide and silicon operations. Lastly, it's affects chemical reactions as it removes water as a by-product.
