Concrete grinders have a wide variety of uses ranging from removal of uneven surfaces, paints, or glue. Floor grinders can remove concrete coating from the surface or clean and polish the floors. So, which are the different types of available grinders? Read on to find out.

Hand-held machine

As the name suggests, the hand-held machines are quite easy-to-use and offer flexible operational capabilities as required. Being light in weight one can use them easily for small job scenarios. When it comes to getting near the nook and crannies, places near the wall, concrete countertop polishing, or other difficult to reach places, handheld grinding machines are your best choice.

When it comes to concrete grinding jobs related to large areas, such devices would prove to be futile. Popular sizes related to these machines, which one commonly finds include those between 4/5 inches or 7/9 inches. Other uses for handheld grinding machines include smoothing out the rough patches and epoxy coating surface preparation. For tough floor grinding these machines use discs of metal diamond and diamond pads for cleaning or polishing jobs.

5-inch grinders

Another popular type of concrete grinders is the 5-inch types. It is possible to use them for creating protrusions and seams whenever required. Besides, these also remove irregularities present on the concrete surface, refurbish, or deburr. One of the best advantages about such floor grinders is their weight. It only weighs six pounds and as such, it is possible to use them for longer durations without problems.

Walk-behind grinders

As the name suggests, walk behind grinder is comparatively large. One can find a variety of options in such devices ranging from those that are only 16” in height to others of 48”. Operators sometimes combine a number of floor grinders together in order to cover large areas at a go.

Remove epoxy coatings, mastic, and thin-set in a breeze or use them as a tile scraper as required. Other utilities include polishing the concrete floor in warehouses, residential or commercial areas, and big stores. Based on the size and the capabilities of these grinders, they come fitted with 1-6 discs.

Heavy-duty grinders

When it comes to removal of blemishes inherent in the concrete surface, the use of heavy-duty grinders is common. Those who want can also use this for simple cleaning of the concrete surface.

Floor riding grinders

When you want to deal with expansive spaces such as those present in shopping centers, retail outlets, distribution centers, showrooms, and warehouses, floor-riding grinders are an ideal choice. These have the capacity to polish or grind an area over 5-feet in width. Once this high-capacity machine is through with a surface it becomes high-gloss, flat, and durable for best effects.

A concrete floor grinder achieves wet or dry grinding based upon specific requirements. For achieving wet grinding, these come with water hookups. That has generated from the grinding process that makes do with the water to form slurry, which can be removed later on. Dry grinding on the other hand requires the use of a vacuum for dust removal.
