How did Casio Keyboard come into existence?

Casio Keyboard is manufactured by the Casio Computer Limited which has its headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It is a multinational electronics company which is popular for manufacturing calculators, watches, cameras and mobile phones. The first electronic keyboard by Casio, the Casiotone 201 came out in the markets in 1980. It was a compact keyboard which could play various instrument sounds and even had an affordable price.

This mini keyboard was mainly used as a child-friendly toy in the 1980’s and used by the likes of famous musicians such as Stevie Wonder, the Beastie Boys, Moby and Fatboy Slim. Casio’s initial keyboards were built with a novel type of synthesis made by in-house Casio technicians. It was labeled ‘vowel-consonant synthesis.’ The square waves from two oscillators would be combined and pushed through a combination of instrument-emulating filters which were developed on the frequencies that are found in the human vocal tract.

Through the years, Casio experimented and developed an array of new features in their digital keyboards using advanced technology that included one-touch-auto-accompaniment, memory capacity for recording songs and playback, auto-play, a melody guide function that helps players through a song by lighting up the keys to name some features. Casio Keyboard price varies according to the keyboard model but its keyboards are said to have the most attractive and affordable price range in the instrument market.

Variants made by Casio

Back in 1985, Casio made simpler keyboards famous with the SK-1 which could record any sound into the keyboard and play the sound back at any pitch found in the keys. A standard Casio Keyboard has essential basic functions such as a versatile collection of high-quality rhythms and tones along with sampling capabilities, an audio IN jack for connection of a digital audio player or any other audio device. The keyboard ranges come with more features in comparison to other keyboard brands and also a perfect choice for those who are cost conscious as for a lower price, it offers more features. Numerous digital keyboard variants have been released by Casio over the years. Names of some models are:

  • CZ-Synthesizer
  • PT-80 (monophonic, eight patches, mid 80s)
  • PD-Synthesizer
  • VL 1 Synthesizer
  • Tone Bank CT Series
  • LK Series Key Lighting (1997–present)
  • CTK/WK Series Standard (2000–present)
  • CTK/WK Series High-Grade (2003–present)

A Casio Keyboard is a great option for everyone especially beginners. It offers users a wider range of models which have been upgraded and are a good value for money. Thus, the Casio Keyboard price is ideal for those who have a fixed or limited budget. The keyboards also have powerful in-built speakers which make for amazing stage performances. These are also used by famous musical artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre and other professional musicians as well as producers. These have become a household name all over the world with musicians, those learning to play the keyboard and those who teach private music lessons or at institutions.
