digitaldowns.us the best virtual horse racing game on the net! Proudly presents the third leg of the Triple Crown Series!

Purse 101500 Starting Purse 25000, 3yo Colts/Geldings Wt 120lbs, entry fee 15000. 25000 bonus paid to winner

A field of 6 talented colts head postward for the Seattle Slew Derby offering trainers this season added purse money (25Kc) with a 25Kc bonus to the winner. While the Triple Crown bid for TEMPLE OF SAKKARA ended last week when he was hopelessly trapped on the fence in the late stages he did show he can stay a distance, finally getting clearance late and rallied up the rail to be 2nd. The winner of that race PERSONAL INJURY careered away in the stretch to win going away by 2, also returns in hopes of another triple crown jewel in his trophy case. We stretch all the way out to 12F for this contest and and a purse of over 100Kc is on the line. Let’s meet the field.

#1 WANDERING BID

Hasn’t been running well of late, having been badly outrun in his last 4 races including the first two legs of the Triple Crown. However, before you throw the baby out with the bath water, there are a few positives going for him. He’s stretching out to the distance his running style and past success has come, along with partnering again with M. Smith who last guided this one to his only on the board finish this season. If he doesn’t run again tonight, he may just be a long distance turf horse given his poor form over the dirt.

#2 TEMPLE OF SAKKARA

His connections called an audible a la Peyton Manning this week and now enter tonight’s big race. The Secretariat Derby champion who finished 2nd last week in the Citation Stakes saw his streak of 5 in a row snapped when PERSONAL INJURY who also returns, ran by them all in an emphatic victory. While the Orb Farms trainee was pinned to the fence in the late stages, he was never going to run down PERSONAL INJURY good trip or bad. As impressive this confirmed sprinter was getting 2nd at the 10F distance, staying the 12F is an entirely different animal all together. His speed figure dropped 4 points since his Leg 1 triumph and it would really be a surprise if he’s around for win honors late.

#3 SHAIREDIDITFORORB

Improved off his dull 7th in the Secretariat Derby to finish 3rd last week in the longer Citation Stakes. While the on the board finish was encouraging for his chances tonight, he lacked the strong stretch kick we’ve seen in past races. He was in good position two wide late, but came up empty at the sixteenth pole and was a distant 3rd, losing the place spot to TEMPLE OF SAKKARA. He’s sort of the wild card in this race to me, as he’s had a so-so sophomore campaign, but has enjoyed previous success at 12F giving me reason to pause. I’m not sure what horse shows up tonight, but he’s capable of hitting the ticket with the right trip. I just think he’s a safer play underneath instead of on top.

#4 G’SGONNAHATETHIS

Lightly raced gelding is the new shooter to this field having passed the much shorter first two legs of the series. His appearance tonight is a interesting one to me, not based on his talent, but because his top class connections have been without a mount in the colt or the filly edition of this series. His connections, while not running as many as they have in prior seasons have been absolutely dangerous this season in the Champ series winning his share of qualifiers. So this entry is interesting to me given his connections presumably didn’t have a horse they felt could contend for top honors in the series until now. While he’s not won this season he’s faced Champ Route qualifier foes of late and has hit the board in all but one of those starts. The juvenile Route Conso winner last season shouldn’t have any problems staying the trip, but I’m not sure what to expect off his spotty workload this season.

#5 PERSONAL INJURY

Was very impressive last week tracking the early leader through a moderate pace to tip out for the drive and power home by 2 widening lengths in a sharp 2:02.66. It was an eye-catching turn of foot for this Metropolitan Stable homebred who turned in quite the sophomore season winning 4 times in 9 tries and banking almost 200Kc for his connections. Should he capture another jewel tonight, he’ll be right in the thick of the HOY conversation. What I like most about him outside of his fine form coming in is his resume at tonight’s distance. He’s won 3 of 4 races at 12F and he’d probably be undefeated if it wasn’t for his poor draw in the Juvenile Champ Route Final, where he was a gritty 3rd undoubtedly burning considerable fuel early on breaking from the 11 post to be part of the first flight. He would later hang a little in the lane and falter to 3rd, but was game to be on the podium that day. Checks all the boxes and my top choice.

#6 SIGNATURE SERIES

The stablemate and half brother to my top choice in here PERSONAL INJURY has been surprisingly under utilized this season since capturing the Juvenile Champ Route Final and besting his fellow entrymate back in December. His connections are usually tight-lipped through much of the season and I’m not really sure the reason behind his limited workload. Nevertheless, he’s entered here off a 3 week break since his last race. He looks to be pace dependent at these marathon distances and would need a bit of pace up front to setup his late kick. If TEMPLE OF SAKKARA sets a hot pace or get’s pressed early look for this one late.
