Posted: Apr 11, 2016
The computer based JEE Main 2016 was held across the country on Saturday and Sunday i.e. 9th and 10th April, 2016. The exam was found to be balanced and moderate; it did not puzzle aspirant much.
Out of all the three sections, Mathematics comprised of moderately difficult questions; students felt that the section was lengthy. Chemistry and Physics were the ‘easy’ sections as a majority of questions were from class XII syllabus that students could easily relate to.
The exam was carried out in 132 cities across the country and abroad. The paper had 90 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics which were split into three sections carrying 30 questions each. Each question carried 4 marks while 1 mark would be deducted for every wrong answer. Further, no marks would be deducted if any question is left unsolved.
In the computer based exam, two sheets were provided for rough work and additional sheets were provided to those who asked for more. Candidates reported that they were denied from carrying a copy of the question paper post the exam.
The pen and paper based JEE Main was conducted last Sunday i.e. 3rd April, 2016. In the offline test, physics was found to be the toughest section and academicians said those who will do well in physics may end up acing the exam. JEE Main result will govern admission to the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. Moreover the top 1.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced – entrance examination conducted to facilitate admission to the IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
Recently, the Indian HRD Ministry announced that less weightage would be given to class XII marks. Based on the observation made by former HRD Minister Kapil Sibbal that students tend to ignore class XII examinations, 40% weightage was given to class XII marks till last year. From this year onwards JEE Main score would form the basis of selection and admission to the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.
JEE Main 2016 result will most probably be rolled out in the last week of April, 2016. After the declaration of the result the NITs and other colleges accepting JEE Main scores will release their cut offs. JEE Advanced – the ticket to study at one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will be conducted on the fourth Sunday of May, 2016.
