While Tony Tata began writing because he has a passion for the activity, he is also quick to point out the fact that if you are looking to write a large piece, such as a novel, you must treat the pursuit like a job, rather than a leisure activity. This means that you need to do whatever you can to make sure that you are as productive as possible if you intend to get your novel finished to a point where it might be considered by any publishers that you send it too. If you’re struggling with this aspect of writing, try to keep the following in mind.

Write Every Day

Many writers try to tell themselves that it is okay not to write on a particular day if they don’t feel like they have the inspiration to create. That is all well and good, but there are going to be many days when you feel like this and you may find that you end up abandoning your project altogether. Try to sit down for an hour or so a day and write. Even if the end result is below your usual standards, you will still be making progress and that passage can be improved later on down the line.

Take Breaks

On the other side of the coin are writers who try to work for hours at a time, leaving themselves feeling exhausted. This can have a detrimental effect on the quality of your work, in addition to leaving you feeling stressed out. It is good to take a break every so often to remove yourself from the world that you have created for your book. Take a stroll or enjoy a little bit of music. This act may even offer you some further insight into what you are writing, allowing you to consider concepts and ideas that may not have occurred to you if you were still deeply entrenched in the writing of your book.

Spend Time On Research

If you are really struggling to get something written during the course of the day, Tony Tata recommends spending the time that would otherwise be wasted on doing additional research on your novel. This could include fact-checking, looking for more information that might be useful to include or even reading a book by one of your favorite authors just to see how they structure stories and come up with solutions to writing problems.
