From space shuttles to transfer of corrosive acids, PTFE hoses (Polytetrafluoroethylene) are used in various intense applications. These hoses are light in weight, heat resistant, ozone resistant and also easy to clean. PTFE hoses can be either smooth or convoluted and while choosing PTFE Teflon hose in India, the braid material and the thickness of the walls must be inspected properly.

In order to avoid certain operational mistakes and to optimize the use of PFTE Teflon hoses, some of the common myths revolving it must be cleared.

Myth 1: PFTE hoses may be an extravagant expense

This misconception arises from the fact that Teflon paste used in the production of these hoses is an expensive, high-grade material. While the premium quality of the constituent material is true, the total lifecycle cost of the PFTE hose turns out to be much more economical than its counterparts in the long-run.

The PFTE Teflon hoses withstand severe conditions with the least chance of hose failure thus eliminating downtime cost. The hose is quite versatile in application and is in fact the same hose can be used to carry air, water as well as steam in certain industries. It requires very less maintenance, is much safer and can be used across various special applications. WLPE Hoses can be often used instead of PTFE Hoses.

Myth 2: PTFE hoses are often chosen for their cosmetic appeal

The braids of the PTFE hoses made from stainless steel offer an outward appeal to the product and make it visually satisfying in an otherwise drab industrial setup. But the real power of PTFE hoses does not stop there.

The reason behind opting for PTFE Teflon hoses in tough industrial environments is its ability to handle any extreme condition. For instance, in tire manufacturing the presses replaced the original rubber hoses with PTFE hoses to avoid frequent in-process failures, bring down the maintenance downtime and to prolong the hose change interval in the process.

Myth 3: All Teflon hoses are the same in quality

Not all Teflon hoses are the same and a PTFE Teflon hose which is made from the special PTFE paste has better physical properties than the one made from any melt-extricable form (such as PFA or FEP).

Myth 4: PTFE hoses are highly prone to bending, twisting and wearing out

Every type of hose can be twisted and crushed when not applied according to the recommendations from the manufacturer and PTFE hoses are no exceptions. However, PTFE convoluted hoses show more crush-resistance than their smoother counterpart and the thickness of the wall also plays an important role in its maintenance.

While using PTFE hoses in critical applications, spring guards (both internal and external) must be used appropriately. The manufacturer of the PTFE Teflon hose in India will be the right source for obtaining the right recommendations about the use of the hoses.
