Have you ever been accused of being a bookworm? I am certain that is a term associated with me more often than not. If you were like me you grew up surrounded by books – many which were illustrated and written by the amazing artist Mary Englebreit, who designed the new Merriment collection of fairy garden accessories. As spring gardening approaches it is pretty common that I will begin reading the latest book or magazine issue that gives me great ideas for my next miniature garden, which is why it is so cool that this illustrator also loves fairy gardens. While reading, you may come across a powerful scene or a breathtaking moment and you want to capture it – you don’t want to lose the moment or the way the words made you feel. Now we can create that moment by using figurines in the Merriment collection to plant a fairy garden and make the vision come to life!

I know that some of my happiest memories involve a book. This may have something to do with the fact that I always carry at least one ‘emergency book’ in my car in case I get a few spare moments to sit somewhere quietly and drown myself in literature. One of my all-time favorite quotes about reading comes from an English Professor who worked at The College of Staten Island Mason Cooley, he said "Reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are". I believe this quote could also apply to fairy gardens, because they are a way to travel to another magical place when you have to stay right where you are. They are a fun way to add a little magic to your home.

If you know anyone like me who loves to read and considers it to be a huge part of who they are then you could create a miniature fairy garden in their honor. Mikayla has a huge book in her lap, but she is of course surrounded with a pile of books that are on her ‘to read’ list. Even though she has the option of a rocking chair – Mikayla is sitting cross legged on the ground, something I am familiar with, I subconsciously shift around trying to get comfortable, but putting the book down is not an option. We all have the one friend who cannot go anywhere without a book, and adding this fairy could be a celebration of them and the huge way they impact your life. I know my favorite book addicts always have a good recommendation and a book to lend whenever I call them and it is usually the way I find a new favorite. Do you think that Mikayla the Reading Fairy has a favorite story, about living in a fairy house, to share?
