5 Mistakes to Avoid with Grouting
Posted: Apr 19, 2016
While not the hardest thing ever to be done, it is one that many people without experience often make mistakes with. There are some mistakes that a person should avoid when they are grouting. If you follow the next few steps, you will save yourself a lot of time and effort, and you won’t have to worry about providing waste disposal services for the extra grout or rubbish clearance for the chaos you made.
Selecting the Wrong Grout
When grouting near the sink, tub, or even the shower be sure to find a grout that is waterproof. Even if the tiles are fitted water can get into the grout and loosen them. When grouting in the bathroom or other rooms be sure to take into consideration the humidity and condensation. If the room will get hot or wet be sure to use waterproof grout. Any other type will cause the need for regrouting and will cost you more money on the waste clearance.
Grouting Too Soon
After installing the tile many people grout too soon. To allow the tile to set and completely dry a person should wait around two days to grout. This will ensure that the tile is set and will not move while grout is applied.
Being Messy
When a person is grouting they cannot do a sloppy job. Grout that is left on the surface of the tile is very hard to get off once it is dry. A squeegee or another tool can be used to spread the grout over the tile in an even manner. Any extra grout should be carefully removed from the surface of the tile to make sure it will get dry and get stuck. Extra grout that can’t be used goes into the junk disposal heap.
Forget the Top
When grouting it is important to make sure that all of the tile is sealed. This includes any gaps between the tile and the bath or other areas of the floor. Be sure that everything is sealed to prevent leaks. This includes the tiles on the edges as well.
Not Fitting Properly
When laying the tile it is important. The tiles should be laid evenly so when a person goes to grout they are working with straight lines. The extra fitting should be removed and thrown for rubbish collection – you do not want that in your way.
These are just some of the mistakes a person should avoid when they are grouting. Following these tips will allow a person to have a beautiful floor. Prepare for some waste clearance along the way and you will be set up for the job. The only thing that remains is to do it.
