With the details of the all new Honda Civic coupe and sedan models already released, Honda enthusiasts have been keenly awaiting the preview of the Honda Civic hatch. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer, as it has been announced that the brand will be previewing the 2017 Honda Civic hatchback at the Geneva motor show next month.

What Can We Expect?

We have already seen details of the sedan variant, which debuted back in September and the coupe which followed two months later. Since these two variants bear a striking family resemblance, it was easy to assume that the new Honda Civic hatch for Sale would also share this common theme. However, specific details were difficult to speculate. Fortunately, Honda will be unveiling the "Civic Hatchback Prototype" in Geneva. The company has also published a teaser sketch to whet our appetites.

The sketch has suggested that the new hatch will share the same muscular aesthetic used on the coupe concept. Since the model for the production coupe retained this beefed up look, we could expect the road model hatch to also keep the look.

The similarity between the coupe concept and production model has also suggested that the preview of the hatch concept will give us a genuine and clear insight into what the market ready hatch will look like. While it is unlikely that any oversized centre exhausts and massive rear vents will be shaved off the production vehicle, the preview will still give us a good idea of what we can get.

The Type R:

If you are interested in a Honda Civic hatch for sale, you are likely to have already studied the spy photographs of the Type R that were published last October. While we have not had confirmation that the Type R will land on our shores, the spy shots also provided insight into how the standard hatch will be styled. The photographs showed that the Type R featured a sloping roofline that is reminiscent of a coupe. This contributed to a long profile that looks almost like a liftback sedan. The pictures also showed that the model featured taller bumpers, large sports wheels, flared guards and a giant wing. What we do know is that both the Type R and the standard hatch will have a larger wheelbase. The new model will be set on a 2700 mm wheelbase, which will be shared with the sedan models. This will make the new model 105 mm longer than the current hatch while the sedan will gain 30 mm in length. Power-train data has yet to be released, but it is anticipated that the hatch will be offered with the 1.5 turbo and naturally aspirated 2.0 litre petrol engines. These are likely to be paired with either a CVT or six speed manual transmission.
