Boost Your Energy Levels
Posted: Apr 22, 2016
Many people are coming into the dispensary lately with "burnt out" adrenals, and coughs and flu’s.
So it seems appropriate to address lowered energy levels this time, or lowered immunity levels in which we are so much more easily taken over by viruses and bugs. Wanting to feel healthier and happier, with increased energy levels and clarity of mind, seems a good intention.
There are a few factors to consider here, including eating in alignment with ones constitution, lifestyle choices around exercise and relaxation, and more specific energy tonics and herbs. Mind effects body effects emotions. So look a little deeper too, ask yourself what in life is tiring or exhausting you? Are you living your passion? The answers to these questions can be an underlying factor in determining ways to overcome tiredness.
Lowered or no energy can also reflect a chronic virus or other dis-ease so see your health practitioner for a full health consultation if you suspect this could be the case for you.
ExerciseRegular exercise gets our circulation going and energises and strengthens our whole system. Walk more, or incorporate exercise into your life any way you can. It has been scientifically proven that regular exercise enhances well-being and fitness levels, which results in more consistent energy. In the Yogic tradition there are specific asanas, or physical postures, as well as breathing techniques to enhance energy levels. Talk to your local Yoga teacher or email us for specifics.
Simple CleansingI like doing a simple cleanse at the beginning of the year, it helps me get back into (or deepen) my daily healthy habits. Tongue scraping is one of the Ayurvedic favourites, simple and cheap you just scrape off the eliminating toxins from your tongue first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything. This practice also stimulates energy lines in our body which begin and end in the tongue and relate to absorption and nourishment.
Another simple Ayurvedic cleansing practise is to sip 3 to 6 cups of plain hot water per day, between meals. This helps to move ama (toxins) from your body, enabling the full potential of your body to be more available to you. Hot water is great to keep you regular. It also helps in weight reduction, and clears the head nicely too!
FoodsMeals are best based around foods nourishing to all your tissues and balancing for your constitution. Food choices play a large role in healing and preventing disease as well as determining energy levels. Start simply by eliminating junk foods like white sugar, carbonated drinks, excess stimulants and deep fried and fatty foods. Eat more fresh foods. Use spices and herbs to aid digestion and absorption of your food.
Eating three regular meals a day and making sure you have at least one serve of protein, are two staple food recommendations. Protein is important to maintain blood sugar levels as well as for essential nourishment and tissue repair. A lack of protein will over time translate into lowered energy. Eat organic proteins and use ginger, cumin or fennel to aid digestion of them.
Vitamins and minerals are often deficient too when we are tired.
Taking a good quality multi-vitamin/mineral can be another simple way to ensure that the amount of energy you have reflects your full potential. Taking Triphala with supplements aids absorption of them. So try this (or use better quality supplements) if supplements you already use have not been absorbing sufficiently so far. You may want to specifically check iron, magnesium, zinc and B vitamin levels.
Your vibrancy can also be affected by the levels of antioxidants present in your diet. Choosing plenty of fresh, ideally organic, ripe fruits and veggies gives you lots of these valuable cell protector rejuvenators.
Amla and rosehip herbs are also great with their high levels of Vitamin C
Generally, wholesome food made with love and eaten in a relaxed manner will lead to better health.
Herbs
I love herbs! Especially freshly grown, organic and traditionally prepared ones. They really work and, as far as increasing energy levels go, can be an ideal first choice.
Often lowered energy levels are linked to burnt out adrenals. So taking a herbal tonic to nourish your adrenals is a good idea. We would advise herbs like: Shatavari, Withania, Rheumania and Licorice, among others.
A herbal tonic addresses the whole person. So, it is ideal to have an individualized herbal tonic made specifically for you. Some other herbs we may choose to use to nourish all the cellular levels, would include: Amla, Rhodiola, Triphala, Astragalus, one of the Ginsengs and of course my favourite the Ayurvedic Chyawanprash Tonic mix of herbs.
Homeopathics and Vibrational RemediesThese can also play a vital role in restoring us to full energy capacity. Homeopathics and vibrational remedies address the underlying causes of lowered energy syndromes, but need an individualized session to be most effective.
My intention here is to inspire you and to give you the basic information so you can begin to modify your lifestyle and habits and thinking patterns and ultimately live more in balance.
My recommendation is to simply start with one or two changes or new habits which are realistic for you. Like for example start scraping your tongue every day and reduce your junk food intake or get a good herbal tonic.
