Even in the digital age when email marketing, social media marketing, and pay-per-click advertising are prevalent, postcard advertising is still one of the most cost-efficient, results-effective, and consumer-responsive forms of direct marketing. Keep in mind that postcards are low-cost sales tools that pack a punch because these attract more attention with their bold designs, provide greater ease in mailing (i.e., no envelopes), and offer more convenience in use (i.e., offer on display at first glance) - truly, a win-win scenario for both the company and the consumer.

But before diving into postcards as part of your direct mail marketing plan, here are ten tips that you should consider. You should be able to get your desired returns on investment when you follow these tips, whether you send out individual postcard coupons or batches of coupon magazines.

Plan your campaign. You should always have specific goals, objectives, and measurable outcomes for your postcard marketing program.

Go for bold headlines. Your postcards are best suited for short messages and lead generation, not for closing sales. You should include several ways to contact your company but stick to a single message.

Keep your message simple yet effective. You may want to think of each word as what is relevant for your target readers so make several drafts before deciding on the best message.

Go for eye-catching designs. You will only have a few seconds to get your target customer’s attention so be sure to include striking photos and graphics as well as a persuasive message.

Use professional and personalized photos instead of stock photos. You will gain more fans and customers in this manner since it shows that you are passionate about providing them with excellent quality.

Keep the time in mind. Your postcards should be time-limited, such as encouraging target readers to usecoupons, enroll in a subscription program, or purchase a product with free promotions within a specific period of time.

Encourage your target customers to take fast action. Your postcards, after all, have a time limit to their validity, such as in the case of coupons, which means prompt action is a must.

Use postcards for other purposes aside from direct mail marketing (e.g., discounts, freebies, and offers). You can also use post cards for new product announcements, new store openings, and gift certificates, to name a few.

Always use both sides of the postcard! You should use the non-address side to print the boldest photos and message while the address side should contain your offer and contact details.

Choose oversized cards, when possible. Your postcards will not only stand out from the rest of the mail but you will have a larger space for your photos, graphics, and text, too.

Now that you are well informed about postcard advertising, your next step is to brainstorm now to get results for your business!
