Keeping in mind the amount of pollution spread these days; researches have shown that there is only 3% of pure drinking water left that can be consumed and only 13% of the total amount of water in the world that can be used for usage such as household activities and industrial purposes. In order to treat water well there are several processes that come into use. One of them is the usage of Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals.

Reverse osmosis is a water treatment procedure in which larger unwanted particles from the water is removed via a semi permeable membrane. With the help of Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals several types of molecules can be removed from water such as ions, and bacteria as well. The following are some of the cleaning chemicals that are used as Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals:

  • Gramicid- 121: this is an Alkanline Base Descalent that is specially used as an alkaline base cleaner for Reverse Osmosis. It is useful in the PH range of 10-13.
  • Gramicid-122: this is an acid Base Descalent that works as an acid base treatment chemical for Reverse Osmosis Membrane and is effective on the PH range of 1-2. This is highly acidic.
  • Citric acid is used and is effective in removing inorganic matter.
  • Sodium Tripolyphosphate is used for the removal of natural organic foulants of natural origin.
  • HCl is also used and is effective in the removal of metal oxides and hydroxides

There are certain precautions one must keep in mind while the addition of these Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals:

  • One must avoid starting acid cleaning unless the individual is 100% sure that there is an absence of organic fouling or not.
  • One must beware of the compatibility of the pre treatment chemicals along with the anti scalant and the hardness that is present in the water.
  • One must keep in mind that when planning a session of addition of Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals then it is essential to consider the order in which the cleaning is required. In general the biological growth and the colloidal silt are used first and then the acid is helps in removing the scale from the membrane. In case the procedure goes wrong, there might be harmful changes in the water consumed.

Gramicid 122 is a low PH liquid formulation in order to remove calcium carbonates, sulphates and metal hydroxides. After the treatment of water with the help of Reverse Osmosis Membrane cleaning chemicals, if done properly, the quality of water becomes very effective.
