Safety Precautions in Chemical Industry

In the chemical laboratories, written documents are available that outline the hazards present in the lab and these papers are known as Chemical hygiene plans. These plans mention and describe the laboratory tools, processes, equipment and protocols that are provided to the workers to guard them against dangerous hazards. These plans keep on updating frequently with the introduction of new chemicals.

Although for each chemical industry, plans are different due to the use of varied chemicals and procedures. If you work in any chemical industry then you must take these safety precautions:

1. Use General SOPs

SOP mentions about the correct use of PPR’s, safe use and handling of chemicals in the industry. Signs and flip charts are used in the industry so that workers remain attentive towards certain chemicals and their hazards.

2. Air Flow

Maintaining air flow in the laboratories is important to minimize exposure. You can fit local exhausts in your industry or take the help of chimneys. Continuous ventilation in the industry minimizes the acid exposure and allows the fresh air to in.

3. Hood System

4. Clean Environment

Keeping the industry clean and dry, it helps in eliminating the accidents of injuries and slipping. You should also lay absorbent mats and keep wipers in the factory so that easy swiping of water from the working site.

5. Remove Clutter

Clean the clutter from working site that reduce the chemical reaction between chemicals and other substances. Store chemical in a protected way and avoid keeping them open.

6. Waste Disposable

One should follow waste disposable procedures to reduce waste products from the industry frequently. The trainers should train the employees about the handling of chemicals and different methods to dispose them.

7. Tools

Make sure your tools are not cracked otherwise; it may lead to spilling of chemicals. One should use contaminated trays to avoid unnecessary mess.

8. Training

The company manager should train the employees before handling the hazardous chemicals. The trainer should train the employees about the complications that can take place in the industry. He should train the employees on how to handle the situations and prevent them from serious accidents.
