The State of Texas Flag is a very important symbol to Texas and must be accorded much respect. That’s why Texas lawmakers have created a statute regulating the use of the flag to protect its integrity. As a person who wants to use the flag as a symbol of patriotism to the state, you have to know what these rules are so you can adhere to them.

1. There is a specific description of the flag. The law itself describes the state of Texas flag to be a rectangle flag with a two to three width and length ratio, containing a blue vertical stripe covering one third of the flag and two equal horizontal stripes – white at the top and red at the bottom. The colors should be the exact same ones on the US flag. That is, 281 (dark blue) and 193 (red) based on the Pantone matching system.

There should be a white star over the center of the blue stripe. The star should have five points, and positioned in a way that one end point straight up.

2. The flag has to be mounted on the right flagstaff and in the right way. The flag has to be mounted at the very end of the staff which must be at least two and a half times longer than the hoist. Should the staff have a finial, it must be in the form of a spearhead or a star.

Should the mounting be permanent, gold fringe can be used as decoration for the state of Texas flag, while the staff can be accessorized with a gold cord and/or tassels.

3. There are specific times when the state of Texas flag can be displayed. As a general rule, the flag should be displayed on state and national holidays and historically significant occasions. The flag should also be displayed in front of or on top of administrative government buildings daily.

As to the specific times, the flag should never be displayed after sunset and before sunrise. But in some cases, they can be displayed at these times provided there’s adequate lighting.

4. The State of Texas flag should be displayed properly with other flags. Where there are other flags, the Texas flag should not be lower than the others. Should they be of equal height, the other flags must not be on the left side based on the observer’s perspective. However, if the other flag is the US flag, the latter should be taller.
