Managing an Organization with Love
Management is a vital aspect of the economic life of man, which is an organized group activity. A central directing and controlling agency is inevitable for units of economic activity. The productive resources viz. material, capital and labor etc. are entrusted to the organizing skill,
administrative ability and enterprising initiative of the Management. Thus management provides leadership to a business entity. Without able managers and effective managerial leadership the resources of production remain merely resources and never become production. Under ever changing economy and environment the quality and performance of managers determine both the
survival as well as progress of any enterprise.
Management cadre enjoys such place of distinction in any nation that the welfare of its people and destiny of the country are under its influence. Management is the process of getting things done through other people to achieve the pre-determined objectives of organization. The process by which given purpose of execution is put into operation and put to supervision. This is the function of executive leadership anywhere. Management may also be defined as, "A technique
by which the objectives and purpose of a particular human group are determined, defined, clarified and accomplished."
FROM BUSINESS POINT OF VIEW, management is the art of securing maximum results with the minimum of efforts so as to get maximum prosperity and benefit for both the employer and the employee (and as a matter of fact for all the stake holders) and give public the best possible service. Management is a distinct process consisting of planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling, utilizing in each, both the science and art as also supervising the entire activity to achieve predetermined objectives of the organization.
More than influencing, leadership is about motivating a group to progress for achievement of
objectives or goals. Organizations are usually over managed rather than appropriately motivated by their manager leaders. Possibly enhanced effort is needed to listen enough and counsel adequately. Let us pay attention to the traits of leadership (where human approach is needed with a flavor of ‘love’ for the addressed ones):- IMPULSE (Drive) The go – getter attitude, the backing of above average energy, initiative for their ambition. MOTIVATION Leaders are willingly assertive and in – charge of the situation. They have the capacity to gain and direct
attention of their receptors for firm objectives.
ETHICS IN THOUGHT, SPEECH AND ACTION
Their honesty and integrity is not in doubt. Whatever is promised is delivered or impeccable effort is visible. SELF CONFIDENCE a leader has to be assertive and a decision- maker.
Should have courage to admit mistakes and suitably atone for them. Balance has to be maintained between emotionality and enthusiasm. COGNITIVE ABILITY Not necessary to be a genius but level of intelligence, perception and ability to think strategically, the higher the better. The judgment to arrive at correct and timely concepts by a distinctive analytical ability and common sense is a requisite. This writer wishes to suggest in all humility that LOVE be treated as an undercurrent to all the activity listed above, love is a backdrop to the throbbing life just as your palpitating heart loves you otherwise how would life continue.
