Welcome to another #FunFilled day of science and technology news of the future. Let’s get started!

Smartwatch that Projects Display Onto Your Hand

Smartwatches today are pretty advanced considering the fact that mobile phones had not yet boomed around a decade ago. But, companies have failed to achieve a smartwatch with a display that projects onto the wearer’s hand, and is interactive as well. With their new patent application, Samsung wants to do just that.

"The wearable device includes an image projector configured to project a virtual user interface (UI) screen, a camera configured to capture an image, and a processor configured to detect a target area from the image captured by the camera [and] control the image projector to project the virtual UI screen," reads the patent application.

The device includes equipment to detect hand geometry and gestures, and can integrate with virtual headsets as well. We’ll just have to see what Samsung will do with the technology if they are awarded the patent.

Think of Drones Differently with SeaDrone

At Disrupt NY, O-Robotix unveiled the SeaDrone – a small underwater drone powered by Linux that only needs a tablet interface to operate. Costing $2300, the portable drone makes for a perfect companion in a professional underwater exploration project.

"You could consider it an underwater quadcopter. It’s not made like a missile, like other underwater drones. It’s designed to stabilize itself. We focused on innovating on how a robot could capture very stable footage," says Eduardo Moreno, co-founder of O-Robotix.

When asked about which industry the company would like to enter, Moreno is only too optimistic. "Currently we’re focusing on aquaculture, because they’re the ones that require the most frequent dives."

Following Germany, Portugal Runs on Renewable Energy for 4 Days

We recently reported that Germany had broken their previous record of running on renewable energy, taking the number to 95%. Following suit, Portugal has managed to run on renewable energy for an astonishing 4 days straight.

"The consumption of electricity in Portugal was fully covered by renewable sources for more than followed four days. This corresponded to a total of 107 hours at a time where it was not necessary to resort to any source of non-renewable electricity production, particularly the production of thermal power plants to coal or natural gas," reports ZERO, "This data shows that Portugal can be more ambitious in a transition to a net consumption of electricity from 100% renewable, with huge reductions of emissions of greenhouse gases, which cause global warming and consequent climate change."
